Hey guys I'm starting a beginners photography class in a few weeks and would like your opinion on buying a camera. The first class will be about the different types of cameras etc but would like your opinion on it too. Also I am going to barcelona in a few weeks would cameras be a lot cheaper there?. Basically im taking this up as a hobby and dont want to go crazy price wise starting off but would like something I can learn on...

An SLR is usually the camera of choice for classes,be it digital or film. I spend a couple of weeks in spain every year, my sister has a place there and the camera prices don't really seem a lot lower than here, although I base that judgement on the big malls over there which are usually more expensive no matter what country you are in. In terms of what camera, it really is impossible to recommend because there are thousand's of different types, if you do go for a an SLR, I would advise you stick with the main two brands ,Nikon or Canon. A film SLR can be got for anything from 100 euro up,Digital considerably more.

Maybe do a google search for good entry-level cameras, then see what you can find on e-bay?

Are you planning on buying a film camera? Do you want to be able to auto-focus, or would a manual-focus camera suit you? Go to somewhere like http://www.photo.net and see what would suit your needs

I think e-bay is great for bargain SLRs, both older 70's machines like the old Olympus OM Systemto newer Canon Eos models

I would probly want an auto focus cam but not sure about e-bay always feel its taking a risk with your money. I'll keep it in mind though

You can generally find second-hand SLR bodies and lenses in the camera shops in Dublin. There's one on Georges St just across from Dunnes, I saw a Canon Eos 300 in there with some lens or other for 100€ I think.

I know what you mean about e-bay, unfortunately I'm an addict :)
