Sorry I have been searching through the forum and cant find the answer.

Does the Sky+ box require a permanent phone connection?
Also if it does are there any wireless solutions?

Just thought of another question - does sky+ box work with digisenders?

The Sky+ box requires a phone line if:
It's part of a multiroom package
    OR
You're getting a subsidised box and install.

If you're prepared to pay fully for the install and the box, and you don't want multiroom then you can have it without a phoneline.

ANYTHING with a composite video and separate works with any Video Sender.

So yes it will. And Sky+ remote will work back through it.

Most different brands are compatible with each other too. Some might not be compatible with each other on the remote signalling.

If you have been subscribing to normal Sky Digital for over 1 year, (where I disconnected the phone line), do you still need the phone line if you want to upgrade?

Also, if you do, is it just as simple as disconnecting the phone line again after the installer has left?

I think that if Sky are subsidising the upgrade then they will ask that the phone line is connected. If you pay full price for the Sky+ box/LNB and the installers time to run the 2nd cable then there's no need.

That said, Sky upgraded me to Sky+ and because of work being doen in the house I disconnected the phone line almost straight away and Sky didn't seem to mind at all.

I have not heard of anyone recently (NOT ON MULTIROOM) that Sky have hassled about phone connection.

I got sky installed in August 2004 (€50 installition fee at that time) and I took the phone line out after a couple of days and never heard a thing from them since.

Friend of mine has Sky Multiroom (2 Boxes) he didn't have them plugged into the phone but he kept getting letters saying he has to pay full whack or connect the phoneline!

Apparantley they check what movies you've bought on Sky Box Office every month to check if the phone line is connected!

Cool - I think I'll try this - if they start playin up I'll try and get the phone connection sorted out where the box is going to be.

Thanks Watty for the digisender info!

But sure they wont know you have purchased a movie if you just plug in the telephone line to order then take it out, as the box dials out a few hours after the order has been watched to send the data to sky.

No, the multiroom doesn't work like that. You don't need to EVER order anything.

From what I can tell both boxes are told at random times by satellite when to phone home. If it fails too long then you get a letter. There seems to be about 4 weeks grace.

Now this bit is a guess. They CAN do multiroom where there is no CLI. They are willing to do multiroom on two different lines WITH cli, if you can really prove these are both your numbers (i.e. ISDN).
So how can single line no CLI work? My guess is that the boxes know when the other box is going to call. We do know the Digibox is polite. It never even tries to use line if it in use. Therefore it can "listen" to line state. If the boxes never see the line in use at all the random times they can report this.
