I wasn't alive for it, but looking at the DVDs and clips on the internet, I think U2 were the best.
    Most Dissapointing was Led Zeppelin.

Im 24. I can remember the band aid vid the previous Christmas to Live Aid, cant remember any of the performances on the day but can remember the rte coverage with people in the background on the the phones. If anyone can remember Live Aid what age were you at the time?

I think you may be confusing Live Aid with Self Aid (the following year). I'm open to correction on this but I don't think RTE covered Live Aid. Maybe someone who lived in an RTE-only area could clarify this.

I was working as a filling station attendant that day. I still have the receipt from my donation of £20 which was about half my wages then.

My memories of Live Aid have gotten mixed up over the years due to bits being repeated, the DVD etc. I vaguely remember the day and watching it on telly however I wouldn't be able to discuss any specifics or performances from back then if it weren't for the repeats. I was 7 at the time and had little interest in "pop music".

Looking at the DVD now I disagree that Bowie was crap, I think he was one of the best. Like a lot of people I think Queen were brilliant. Other performances that I liked
    U2
    Dire Straits
    Bryan Adams
    The Boomtown Rats
    George Thorogood and the Destroyers
    The Cars
    Howard Jones
    Tom Petty
    Bryan Ferry

Thought The Who were disappointing plus they had technical hitches which didn't help.

Ah, Leaving Cert year for me, we travelled to Castlebar by car from Dublin on this fine sunny day to visit my cousins. Us 4 kids watched "the Status Quo" kick off proceedings at 12 noon in our own house and then dad packed us into the car and started driving west. We had the old wine Datsun Cherry car-radio on from time to time in the midlands, good old 2FM, but the reception was patchy due to location and the fine sunny weather. I remember when we arrived at my cousins house, all the adults went off to chat and we sat in the back room around the TV and watched the early evening acts...

Having seen more recent footage on a Channel 4 TV documentary a few years ago, my favourite performances were Queen, Bowie, U2 and Elvis Costello and his marvellous solo stint. Sting/Police were good too and the Style Council were gas. What a generation defining day!!
