Hi, Im am a little unsure about this one because I havnt played that many tourneys yet so bare with me....

Im just wondering what the general rule is in casinos with buybacks and top-ups...

Say in any casino tourney, if you have three buybacks(rebuys) and one top-up....

Does that mean three buybacks before or after the break?

Is it the norm that you get half your origional chips after you purchase a buyback?

And at what stage can you get a 'top-up' and how much are they usually worth (Usaully starting value of your chips I think) ?

Do you have to be out of chips to buyback/topup ?

And how do these apply to a freezeout competitions?

If it's three re-buys and a top-up, you have two options before the break (i.e. freezeout period):
    1) You can use the three re-buys and the top-up if necessary before the break, or
    2) If you have chips left and haven't used all your rebuys and the top-up, you can then get the top-up at the break. Even if you' haven't had any rebuys, you can still get the top-up.

    No way, that's a terrible system. The rebuy chips should go up in value with each rebuy e.g. original buy-in = 1000, 1st rebuy = 1200, 2nd rebuy = 1500, 3rd rebuy = 2000, top-up = 2500.

    Answered above, I think.

Depends on the tournament. In any that I've played you must be out of chips to rebuy. In some cases, you can rebuy when your stack is below a certain level e.g.10% of starting chips. Another point is that if you are out of chips at the break, and haven't used all your rebuys, you can get a rebuy AND a top-up.

In Freezeout tournaments, once you lose your initial buy-in, you are out. In other words, a rebuy game turns into a freezeout after the break.

One last important point: get used to using the term rebuys, rather than buybacks! Using the latter will indicate a lack of experience, which is only good if untrue. :)
(The same for using a blue for a flush, and a run for a straight).

Is this commonly used in tournaments?? Any i've palyed in, if you didnt use all your rebuys then you could only get a Top Up and not any unused rebuys.

BTW Clticbhoy, what part of Mayo are you from?

In any I've played, once you're out of chips at the break and haven't used all your rebuys, then you can get both. There are a few dealers who post here who should be able to clarify.

In some cases, if u lose all your chips in the last hand b4 the break, u can first rebuy, then top up at the break (assuming u have at least 1 rebuy left).
You cannot use multiple used rebuys.

A freezeout tournament is where there are no rebuys or top ups, and when u lose your starting chips u are now.

Most rebuys turn into freezeouts after the top up, which takes place during the break, which is usually after 60 or 90 minutes play.
