Step 1 -Visit oasis.gov.ie to see what class of licence you require (ie. you already have B and that is good for a car, but see what you need to the heavier vehicles)

Step 2-Get a provisional licence in whatever class it is (passport photo > eyesight test > theory test > motor tax office)

Step 3-Using goldenpages.ie find out a driving school in your area that provides its own vehicles.

    Step 4-Apply for driving test

    Step 5-Pass the test

Step 6-Using goldenpages.ie find out the names of hauliers and send them your CV

This is just a quick outline, maybe your should talk to a few hauliers and join a union or whatever the de facto requirements are.

Fairly pricey to get an artic licence (lessons and all) and you have to get a rigid licence first... HGV driving can be a fairly lonely life on the road especially on continental work...If you succeed getting licence try one on the big haulage contractors like Musgrave group or Tesco as usually they have very competitive rates of pay, union ,and good machinery.......... I don't hold a licence for here but an American company brought a load of us over a few years back, trained us and gave us trucks and away we went all over the country..its a good way of finding out if its a job you like and and a bit of a holiday.
