You can get it from www.technikdirekt.de for €608 (incl postage) so why would you bother spending an extra €187?

is that body only...i cant read german

My apologies. When I examined the Technikdirekt offer in greater detail the lens included in the package is a Sigma and not a Nikon. Sneaky! They don't appear to couple the body with the Nikon 18-55 on it's own. Peculiar. The cheapest I could find the Nikon body/lens package elsewhere was at Pixmania for €697 plus postage. You'd still save a few bob by shopping there but not a whole lot. So, yes, the Irish price you found ain't bad at all.

Well i think you've found the cheapest you'll find for a retailer in Ireland.

You'll probably get it better on the net.

I got ripped off for mine, got it in Mulligans Chemist.

    Great camera though.

I've already got my D50, so I'm not looking at prices anymore, but I was just looking here and I noticed 'Nikon D50 Digital SLR Camera Kit Black includes AF-S Zoom Nikkor 18-55mm Lens [6MP]' Our Price: €668.93 (£460.33) and it says that it includes VAT... I haven't checked it out fully... just thought you might want to look at it.

AC-Foto have black body for €595 with €100 cashback.

I just got mine (literally this morning!) from AC-Foto and I have to say they provide fantastic service!

The only catch (if you can call it that!) with the €100 cashback is you have to register on the Nikon.de website! It took me a while as I was translating everything using bablefish to make sure I had all of the right details! Once registered you download a form and send it off with a few details and they pay €100 into your bank account! :)

man its so hard to choose what to do, prices are so varied, its crazy, its alot of money and i dunno if getting it from a shop is worth the extra 100 or whatever...grr

What you do is entirely up to yourself! All I can say is what I did!

I just looked at my budget and what I actually wanted to get out of the camera itself. I personally opted for an entry level DSLR to go along with a photography course (Which I have yet to choose!)

I bought the Nikon D50 double lense kit which cost about €945 including delivery. Then you send off the required paperwork and get €100 back into your account knocking the total cost down to €845 which is only €50 more than you're planning on spending in the shops. This also came with a 512MB SD card.

I've had it for less than 24 hours and so haven't had a real chance to play but it seems it will do everything I want from it and more! This brings the end result of being very happy with it!

I wasn't sure the cash back applied outside of Germany, good to know that it does. With the cost of delivery it's not worth it though.

Best deal going is currently Apple.ie.
D50 kit with Nikkor lens and 1GB SD card all for 718.99 and free shipping.
    http://store.apple.com/Apple/WebObjects/irlstore.woa/90505/wo/3.SLID?mco=15A8C4DB&nplm=BA627

If someone can find better, do tell. :) The 1GB card and free delivery seem to clinche it though.

oakers - great deal, but i'm just startin out really in the slr area so i'm happy with the standard lens for the moment, and also my mates foekin out 2 grand on a new nikon and he said i can use his lens so i can work with them til i feel i'd get good use out buying one myself.

halenger - thats brilliant, whats the manual in, is it english? how long was delivery? I think thats what i'll go for, cheers...god bless boards.ie

Even if the manual isn't in english send me a PM and I can send you one in PDF format!

Enjoy your new toy when you get it! :)

Am I right in saying that there is no bulb setting on the D50? I'm interested in getting it, but that would be fairly important to me. Steve's Digicam's says it doesn't.

Nevermind, it does according to the apple specs.

Larger lens? You mean the 18-70 that comes with the D70(s) or the non-Nikkors that come in other deals?

The 18-55 has reviewed very well from what I've read. And it has a good range (when converted). i.e. 27mm -> 82.5mm. I've two manual lenses that will work with it so they'll cover anything above that range.

I haven't gone for the deal yet but I will at the end of the month before it closes, hopefully. I have searched a good deal and I can't find any package as good.

It's Apple Ireland who are selling it so I'd imagine the manual is in English/possibly many other languages also.

The 18-55 with the D50 Kit is a very very good lens.

No, Mine came with the 18-55 and the 55-200 AF-S DX Nikkor lenses from AC-Foto.com.

At the end of the day it's up to the buyer! But the 55-200 lense is €279 from the same site which to me personally made this deal worth while!

Where if you don't mind me asking? And for no real reason I'll ask, what brand SD card?

Enjoy it! I can't wait to order mine.

show a bit of leg...it worked for me

Well that was an entirely unsuccessful day, aside from actually getting to hold the camera and play with it slightly. Noone was budging anywhere.

Berminghams do "A-Stock" (ex-demo/display or refurb) for 629 (on their new(?) website). 6 month warranty. Seems like a decent offer if you're not shopping for an SD card or are thinking of buying after Apples deal ends.

The best laugh I got was Dixons. Their E-500 price looked good so I went and had a look. You know how the label things with price/specs and something randomly Dixons related on the right? Well the D50 had the "Our prices can't be beaten" one. Price? 849. I laughed quite a bit and made a point of telling the guy that their price was 100 euro dearer than the rest of Dublin. What a joke. Their UK website sells it for 6xx sure.

Anyway, I ordered my camera from Apple tonight. I'll hopefully have it during the week.

One thing, it's way way lighter than I had expected. Very noticibly lighter than my film SLR. That caught me off guard a bit.
