Luas ticket from newsagents problem

Anyone having problems purchasing Luas tickets from their local newsagent etc.???

Apparently there was a change over of supplier (?), and it appears that a large batch of tickets have expired prematurely. Finally had to bite the bullet today and go and buy one out of a ticket machine (at a premium) as my newsagent hasn't been able to sell any for the last few days (atleast since Sunday).

    Anyone experience similar?

Talking to myself here :D but it appears that the contract with the previous ticket provider ended on the 31st Dec, so the tickets were set to expire then. So whether Connex didn't know, or were just so off the ball and didn't bother the ass - the stock of tickets expired. I heard today that the tickets were supplied by Dublin Bus (????) - if that was true were Dublin Bus just taking the p1ss then???

Connex aren't in charge of ticketing, the RPA are, and 'competence' isn't a word I'd generally associate with them.

As for the DB thing, it actually makes sense if you want to be sure of a ticket that will validate on the bus validators (for the combined bus + luas tickets). I don't see how you could hold them responsible for someone in the RPA not placing a replacement order though...

Yes that makes more sense - I didn't consider the bus validator because I buy a Luas only ticket. Doesn't really explain why the tickets explicitly expired on the 1st Jan thou' (cynic playing up in me?!) unless it was for specific accounting reasons???.

Righteo, can't get a weekly ticket for love nor money this week - unless of course I go to a machine and pay a €2.50 premium.

I have tried 5 shops on the Luas ticket agent list as follows:

Blackhorse - Scoop News - out of stock
Goldenbridge - Kevin News - out of stock
Suir Road - Spar Hyland - closed!?
Rialto - Centra - do not sell Luas tickets anymore*
Rialto - Mace - do not sell Luas tickets anymore*

If you were anyway cynical - you'd sort of think that someone somewhere was attempting to discourage people from buying tickets from newsagents.

It sounds like the system has gone tits-up somewhere in the region of the RPA.

The system that they put in is unnecessarily complicated as it requires the ticket agents to have a validator machine installed and kept up to date rather than just selling pre-validated tickets like the weekly/monthly tickets Dublin Bus agents sell.
