Im getting a new dell and was just wondering is there much difference in a celeron D processor or a pentium 4. Im only going to be using the computer for internet, playing music and dvds, maybe a bit of photoshop/3d max.

photoshop/3d max will run horribly if at all on a celeron D. get a pentium.

In your case I would go for the Celeron as it is pointless paying more than you have to. Though if you went the AMD route you would get more power and similar costs, plus when you come to sell it on it would be easier to sell as AMDs tend to be quite popular these days so people are always looking for them.

Stay away from Celeron chips if you can :).

AMD have the best processers and prices these days.........

But you will have to buy from a different manafacturer other than dell as they only do intel

They are using AMD over in USA now :), perhaps the trend will move over here.

go for the cheapest pentium 4 dell pc , celeron is too slow for modern games or multimedia, once u have p4 pc, u can always upgrade it in future ,get at least 2.4 giga hertz pentium 4.

Everything will run on the Celeron just slower.

Thats said I would wait to see what turns up in the sales and in the Dell outlet store over the next few weeks. An AMD is better value overall though.

This question is asked two or three times a month. Search before posting.

Celeron is slower but still comfortably fast enough for almost anything you'd want to do with a pc.

If 88fps in DOOM3 is too slow for you, then fair enough. Otherwise, Celeron it is.

Be aware that the Dimension 3000 has no AGP or PCI-E slot. So you can't add a better fgx card to play games. You need a Dimension 5000 or better if you think you might want to play games.

Wont be playing games, just a bit of photoshop/ 3d max. Will the system spec above be good enough for this

You might consider getting a system with a gfx card, even a basic one for 3D max.

Do yourself a favour and get a board with PCI-Express as graphics swallow up RAM and Graphics power!!!

Jaguarcompsys.ie do basic pentium 4 3.0 gigahertz pcs 400e approx,no os ,no monitor, specify fast agp card or pci-express and u,d end up with a fast pc for 600euro ,celeron is too slow 3dmax,i think, they are based in dublin,22.at least u can always upgrade a pentium 4 pc,get a pc -i express with an agp slot too if they have 1,with both slots ,that would be ideal.no point getting celeron pc with no agp slot.

Didn't realise boards with AGP and PCI-E existed.

Yes it must have onboard gfx. Unless you are doing some very complicated meshes/models it won't have much effect.

    Athlon64 ftw

don't get a board with both AGP and PCI-E, the AGP slot is crippled, and the board itself is very much a budget board with no frills, and probably very few bios updates due to problems.
