    I'd reconsider...

I mean, would you want a picture of somebody that represents your taste in something so transient as music?

I would have thought that if you were a big enough fan to want to have his face tatooed on your body then you'd already have a decent photo of him.

Thou shalt not make unto Billy Joe a graven image, nor any manner of likeness, of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; but a tattoo is A-OK.

seriously, if youre getting a band tattoo, get a symbol or something not quite so obvious as a pic of a band member, its like having a big sign saying I LOVE GREEN DAY. Sure its your body as you say, but itll be your body in 10 years time when green day are elevator music and youre thinking 'wtf did i ruin my back with that billy joe tatto for'. At least if you just get a band logo or piece of album art it wont be quite so obvious and you can spoof people up and say its your own design should a time come when you stop liking green day.
People change, tastes change, music changes. Tattoos dont. Youre stuck wth them.

Some can be ok, but I wouldnt get one because I could hate it in X amount of years. it has happened loads of people I know.

If its something you think you are going to do anyway, try get it some place on your back that wont expose it in a shoulderless dress or something.
They look rotten with any formal wear. If you are feeling rebellious,
forget the tattoo, go get somethin' pierced kid.

So am I the only one here that doesn't know who this guy/girl is?
I could just click the google links, but I don't honestly care.

    Good luck with your tatoo.

One piece of advise I was given - Never get a tat of a person, or band. Think of what could happen in 20 years. Imagine someone, 20 years ago getting a tattoo of Gary Glitter? And walking about with that now. A friend of a friend got Adam and the Ants tattoo'd on his back in the 80's. All of them like. He HATES it now. Don't let something like that happen to you.

    LOL!

    too true.

Good luck getting billy-joe removed from your body in a few years time, maybe laser removal will be cheaper then

    what a horrible,horrible idea.
Good luck with it though, let us know how you get on with the lazer removal of it a few months down the line when you realize what a retarded idea it was to have a picture of someone tattooed to your back.

EDIT: damnit, should have clicked post quicker.

I have two tattos, you should think about a tatto for at least a year before getting one. I wanted a tattoo saying U2 a few years ago. Still a huge fan but glad I didnt get that done

As i've said on the tattoo forum i'd strongly advise against it

    http://www.rexfeatures.com/cgi-bin/r2show0?k=billy+joe+armstrong
http://pro.corbis.com/search/searchFrame.aspx (type in billy joe armstrong - theres about 20 there)

You will of course need to pay for these images. I imagine Rex won't be too expensive though.

Alternatively go to a record shop and buy a poster of him.

Just imagine showing your grandkids your tattoo..... or even when your middleaged on a beach with Billy Joe on your back......kinda sad imo

but then again its your life/back

What age are you lizanne... I'm not saying that in a condescending way or anything but between the ages of 11 and 16 I thought Green Day, Nirvana, NOFX etc were the best bands in the world...

From 16 to 18 or something I thought Zeppelin were the greatest band in the world...

At 19/20 I like lots of music, still listen to NOFX/Green Day/"insert other punk band here" the odd time but I prefer listening to much more, completely different bands than I did a year ago...

What I'm saying is that musical tastes change... If I'd gotten a tattoo of a band I liked even 6 months ago I'd regret it...

I've one tattoo on my arm I completely regret getting cos I thought about it for about ten minutes before getting it...

I'd never get a music-related tattoo because musical tastes are far too subjective and change constantly as you age/listen to different bands/get into different types of music...

If you want to get it then fire away but I can almost guarantee in ten years time Green Day won't be your favourite band ever. I contemplated band tattoos years ago but never got one cos I knew I wouldn't like them as much in years to come...

I'd still like a little Blues Brothers tattoo though :)

Yeah beat me to it with the garry glitter one. "adam" also turned into a nutter at one stage, with a gun or something. I remember thinking of tatoos in my teens, I was thinking of a certain band but wouldnt have got the name done, just a small logo that was on some albums, it was more of a graphic design only really big fans would have recognised it, especially 15 years on. (I never got it but still would not regret it even though I dont listen to them much) If you insist on a green day thing I would go for a similar icon with no wording.

fair play for wanting one, but greenday have been going downhill for a while now, and for some reason billy joe tries to be slipknot with his shouting these days in live arena's.

your body, but christ you're messing it up

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,240 ✭✭✭Endurance Man

Dear lord  , you really love Greenday that much! I can bet in 20yrs when your sitting around the fire with your kids you aint gonna be loving them so much, and your going to be hating! this hideous face drilled into your back.

hmmm really not the reason to be getting a tattoo. U sound very young.

I know someone who got a tattoo of gary glitter when he was at the height of his career. How do u think that one looks now?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 806 ✭✭✭Atrocity

Even before Gary Glitter fell from grace his music was crap. Anyone who gets a tattoo of something rubbish like Glitter or Nick Astley obviously has a rubbish taste. If someone has a decent taste and knows a bit about music then it's not certain that they're going to regret it in years to come.

thats just a matter of opinion. i used to love guns n roses, still like some tunes. wasnt stupid enough to get a tattoo to worship my false god tho!

well, age comes into it too. I wouldn't have dared thinking about a tattoo back when I was exploring music and learning my tastes. When I got one eventually, I was thinking about it for two years in advance and I'm proud of it. There are horror stories, though. I heard of someone from Cork City who got a Horslips tattoo on his neck

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,144 ✭✭✭LundiMardi

ha ha.. sorry, but people who get tattoos of peoples faces are kind of retarted, i know a guy who has a bob marley tattoo on his forearm:rolleyes:

That being said, i wouldn't mind getting Led Zeppelin's 4 Symbols as a tattoo, that would just be cool imho.:)

Exactly but unfortunately when we are at a young age, our rebellious streak takes over common sense. Now where can i get laser surgery to remove this New Kids on the Block tattoo from?

I seriously doubt that you're mature enough to truly understand the permanence of a tattoo. Particularly judging from your posts here.

What would Billy Joe thing if he saw your back with a picture of him?

    Probably jesus she's a weirdo.

Don't do it, add 20 years, you are now married (if you're lucky) but cant wair off the shoulder clothes because people laugh at the teen fantisy image, you cant go out on the beach without a towel..again..people will point and laugh at you.

Get a grip girl..you have a teeny crush on someone that if he saw your tatoo would think scary weirdo and not want to be near you.

Have a weather station?, why not join the Ireland Weather Network - http://irelandweather.eu/
