Firefox Problem: profiles

    my laptop froze with FF open. when it "unfoze" would not let me open new FF window or browse in open one, said I'd to enter different profile as "hmm.messiah" as in use, it opened a dialog box for me to do this, which i did

    trouble is i cant now get to my default/hmm.messiah profile and the bookmarks saved etc. have tried FF help but can't find anything on this. anu ideas?

    - you cannot find it or it will not allow you to switch? does it give you an error?

    just end the task...
    go to the task manager and end firefox.ie, that'll fix it! (although it's closed, it's still running)

    I had the same problem. Lost all my bookmarks... :(

    Maybe there is a solution but I couldn't find it!

    Hit the windows key and r to open the run dialog box, or alternatively select run from the start menu and type:

    firefox -profilemanager

    should be able to select your default profile now, then open firefox again and it all should be ok.

    EDIT: Firefox has to be closed completly for this to work

    There not lost,

    Just go to

    C:\Documents and Settings\Lorco\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles

    Changing the lorco part with the name of your account, probbably family or something, the application data folder is hidden so you will have to allow hidden folders to be seen.

    When you go to that folder there sholud be two profiles, select one and open the file bookmarks.html. U will be able to see all your old bookmarks. U can just transfer this file into your new profile and u save all your old bookmarks.

    Formatted my hard drive recently so they are definitely gone now!

    Cheers anyway, I have a new and improved set of bookmarks now.

    happened weeks ago ened tasks, restarted machine etc etc

    bookmarks.html did the trick thanks

    is there some way or changing profiles when ff opens (say having work bookmarks, and a differen profile with personal?
