Lol having just read the Apple thread I want to find some actual bargains for digital SLR cameras. ;)

Would prefer the Canon/Nikon brand... also any deals about extra accessories (lenses, memory cards) would be much appreciated.

Edit: sorry I should have put a [request] in the title - I'm still new at this. Would a moderator care to do it for me?

Gunns on wexford street, I REALLY doubt you'll get a better price in any other shop. You might online but I wouldnt buy something like that online.

    Best of luck :)

    Right.
Can you get up to the north? Newry is only a 1hr drive from Dublin.

    Jessops do a Canon 350D + lens for £580.
If you pay with mastercard you can send away for £100 cheque to mastercard.
Canon also send you out a 256mb or a 512mb card free.

£480 (€725) isnt much for a camera of this quality.

You'd get a great price on ebay. Got my 300D from there over a year ago when it was 999 in the shops, for 700. Just make sure you pick a seller with lots of positive feedback and 98-100% rating.

    Do Gunns have a website?

Also being a poor student I am looking at a price range of between €300-€500 max :( also no credit cards so only bricks and mortar for me!

Although if push comes to shove I could always use one of my parent's cards.

You wont get a digital SLR for less than €500 so you can keep dreaming!

€650 incl del = the cheapest "buy it now" on ebay.

I've seen used SLRs on websites come up for less though - if you keep your eye out for a 300D, you should be able to pick one up for about €600.

The 350D is ridiculously good for €750 though.

How about fixed lens camera (but of exceptional build and suitable for a quasi-amateur/professional person?) Any suggestions?

The S5600 looks good and its cheap - less than £200 :)

Do a bit of digging around on some of the big review sites :)

If you are looking for fixed lense, try a Sony 717 - well respected for its performance vs price (especially these days - try ebay - shoud get new for around 300 euros or so). Mines going strong after 3 years and nearly five thousand exposures!

Wow, thanks man! You really know you're cameras!

I've got a Konica Minolta Dimage G530 right now, good for snapshots but want to be a bit more creative

here are some of the photos I've taken on the 530:

    ...any potential there?

plenty of deals on eBay if you're patient enough.
Use the "completed listing" facility to see the prices cameras have sold for and what you should expect to pay.

I looking at a Nikon D70 at the moment:

You can compare digital cameras side by side on this site:

Hmm the fuji uses xD cards... how high is the highest capacity on those cards? And aren't they horribly expensive?

Just something to note with all the DSLR cameras, the camera price is just an initial investment and usually comes with just a standard (but generally good) lens. You'll be buying loads of lenses, flashes, memory and more if you are interested in photography as a good amateur, so be prepared to spend lots of money...

Very true....... Id buy just a body and put the other money towards getting good lenses, or buy a better lense kit. AC-FOTO.COM is pretty good for these deals.
