    Hey,

Posted this in Digital Rights, but I think this forum is more suited. Correct me if im wrong :)

Can anyone give me an example where a developer of a product which allowed for high illegal file sharing was prosecuted?

Also, a case where the distributer of such a product was prosecuted?

    At least warned anyway.

    Cheers!

    Hmmm elaborate?
Napster comes to mind straight away? Or are we talking bittorrent developers?

    I smell a college assignment! :D

Napster is probably the best example I can think of.

At this time of year? Your not smelling any "college assignment". This is purley for my own research.

Just want to know, has a developer of any P2P Program that gets used for illegal file sharing mostly - ever got in any trouble from the likes of the RIAA?

And has any distributer of the program got in trouble either?

Bittorent is a protocol allowing P2P and I guess I could use that, as the developer of the client is getting a good deal instead of jail/fines.

Napster was a program, and its developer was prosecuted.. suppose thats a good example.

What about Limewire, has anything been said to them? I think they added a disclaimer on their product anyway

And Kazza, being the developer of the client?

Has a distributer ever been done for it before?

Say if boards had a download section, and hosted programs for Kazza, Limewire, Bittorent clients, links to bit-torrent sites etc. Can boards get prosecuted for distrbuting links to downloads they may/may not have developed?

You should checkout secondary infringement of copyright and get a legal person's opinion before trying any of this.
