hey guys hope you can help,

i have an inspiron 4100 which im putting in a dvd drive for a friend. another problem he mentioned was that the modem didnt seem to be working. sure enough anytime i tried to dial up it would say "no dial tone....". after hours of googling i found various possible solutions, such as conflicting ports, registry entries looked messed up too, so i decided to install windows again.

problem then was i needed a driver for the modem, which i have now found and installed. now when i dial up it just keeps redialling. i.e. it tires once, then again and so on.

im stumped at this stage. the modem appears to be working fine in device manager. anyone have any clues as to what this might be? or any tools i could use to test my settings?
