2months away from booze.any tips to mazimise this time?

    Hi all

    A very Merry Christmas and happy new year to you all! I occasionaly take time off from the alcohol and in the new year i will be taking 8 weeks off the booze. I usually drink at least once a week and I would like some pointers for maximising my training time during this hopefully fruitful period away from the beer.

    In terms of history,regular readers will know that I have been training using core strength excecises for the last 2 and a half months. Ive seen some really postive gains and achieved lots of personal bests with my one-rep-max increasing initially every week but now thats slowed right down.

    Should i stick with the core strenght training or should I introduce a day working solely on arms and isolation/cutting movements? Im aiming to continue increasing the amounts im lifting but also (ultimatlty) looking for increased tone/definition-when do I know its a good time to focus on this?

    (Up until now have days dedicated to_

    Chest and abs
    Back,Legs and abs
    Shoulds and abs

    With cardio about twice a week.

    (I tried that Mike Metzer (sp?) technique of training the other day but found it very diffcult to get/feel any 'pump' if you get me! Right now his technique of very, very slow weighted movements seems way too advanced for me.)

    MaxOT or Heavy Duty training is not something i would normally recommend for the virgin lifter. Get a year or two of normal, solid workouts under your belt before you go near it.

    Sure, many people including Dorian Yates ( 6 time Mr Olympia ) claim this is the style of training that made them champions. But ask youself how long had they been lifting before they tried it.

    I don't really know anyone who used this style from the get go with great results. Also, whatever way you want to look at it, Mike was a gearbag.

    Now then, on to your question. Just stay doing what your doing. I would advise you to add in an arm day, as they will benefit from some more direct work, but if your results are good, don't change the method.

    Also, i would suggest you eat a little more, your booze was providing carbs and calories, and unless you need to lose fat i would suggest you replace them with something.

    As your off the booze for two months, maybe try working on some cardio and other body fat burning excercises, as this will lead you to the definition you are looking for.
