I've been playing with my new toy (targa dvd-hdd recorder) and have been experimenting with the various recording rates. Assuming I was to use a blank dvd, I have the option of

HQ ~ 1 hr of video
SP ~ 2 hr of video
LP ~ 3 hr of video
EP ~ 4 hr of video
SLP ~ 6 hrs of video

I've only been recording onto the hdd so far, but if i'm recording from sky, and looking around on the net it seems that the one hour mode will be very close to DVD quality, while the four and six hour modes will be more like VHS SP and EP respectively.

Does sky even broadcast at dvd quality? Is recording at SP overkill for just watching stuf i've missed?
