Well I am a big follower of Dave and by far his best album is Live at Luther college. Best song would have to be stay or leave, I dont like his studio albums his live albums I think are far better.

Some albums to get of his would be

1.Live at Folsom Field - Boulder, Colorado

    2.Everyday

3.Live at Luther College with Tim reynolds ( one of the best guitar solo's on this, song is called stream )

    4.Stand Up

    5. Live at red rocks

    6.Live at central park

some of the albums I have which I think is good anyway

:) Ah, how I love these boys, will be happy to introduce ya to some stuff.
    Where to begin? *laughs*

I hope to give you an idea of the important dmb cds to have so that you can decide yourself what fits you and where you should begin.
no, I don't think its possible to get a full taste of what this band is all about through one live or studio release, afterall, they have 10+ years of material. but these would be the cds that might give you a better idea of dmb.

Dave and Tim at Luther College is a piece of art sure, but if you want to know the full band more, u need full band stuff. LC will soon follow though. ;)

Studio Albums. sure, they're not as incredible as the live stuff, but this is where the songs are perfected.

(I would suggest starting with studio releases b/c you can get to know the songs faster like this. Live songs tend to get drawn out into a jam, and if you don't know the song its possible that you might lose interest. For example, a song that is 6 mins on a studio cut can easily turn into a 15 min song live. Sometimes its easier when ur new to a song to listen to it short and sweet than when it freely goes everywhere.)

You can go with Under the Table and Dreaming, Crash, or Before These Crowded Streets. Each contain songs that all fans call "epic dmb songs", so ur getting a good mix with any cd.
I’d say most start with either UTTD or Crash. I wouldn’t skip many, if any, songs on either of these cds. Crash is perhaps a tad bit more radio-friendly than UTTD. Crash also has excellent drumming.
BTCS: darkest sounding of the dmb cds, has a rougher/mysterious edge to it. (its my favorite)
ah yes and Remember Two Things needs to be mentioned, the sound is a bit raw -which I think is pretty cool. It was their first release and again has a whole bunch of them dmb classics.

Live shows are a big reason why so many people follow them.

Red Rocks: A powerful live concert, has a lot of the classics that fans hold dear. Some songs are at their very best, a few are not. They get into some jamming in this release.

Live at Chicago:a close second, has more "known" songs I suppose. A lot of energy in this one opening with The Last Stop > Don't Drink the Water, both harder rocking songs for the band.
To sum it up, I think its safe to say Red Rocks has a bit more jam than Chicago, which is more rock.

okee dokee, I know that was a bit of info, hope it helped instead of overwhelmed. If you have any questions about them, feel free to ask -after all, music is my favorite topic and they are my favorite band :D

    Good luck and Enjoy!
    Peace, Love and DMB

*PS* I noticed that in your little profile it says you play the bass.. I'm guessing you may be familiar with Vic Wooten? which means u would be slightly more interested in the Chicago release since he guests at that show. He has some sweet bass solos along the way, so you may enjoy that :)

Well, Its nice to know there is a few DMB heads out there....!!
These guys are by far the best band in the world at the mo..cant nme one who comes close.
I think the best thing to do is check out the studio albums first then when your into it move onto live albums then move on to Dave and Tim...

    DMB have 7 studio albums..
    As 40crush41 said

You should get Under the table and dreaming first,
Its a great indication of what your getting yourself into!!!
Then Crash, Before these crowded streets, Everyday(Great album though more commercial than previous DMB albums), Busted Stuff(Classic), ANd the latest album Stand Up(which has also gone down a more commercial route but istill think its class)
Remember two things was their first independently released album, also great!!

The live albums are amazing..End of story!!
Ive been to see DMB 3 times in the states. Last gig was in July, They are unbelievably popular in USA and its a big pity no one knows them over here...

But sure go listen and enjoy cause if you like it then you really like it if ya know what i mean!!
    Eat, drink and be merry,
    Peace,
    Mic
    TKO
