Depends on if I'm including New Years. It's either "Happy Christmas" or "Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year". Saying "Happy Christmas and a Happy New Year" doesn't sound right.

I cant stomach all this happy/merry christmas ****e. I'll say it in a text or whatever, but I cant bring myself to actually say it. My cold, black heart at it again.

What does that mean? All I know is that in New York very few say merry/happy Christmas as a good proportion of the population don't even celebrate Christmas!

It means you're buying into the nonsense that ethnic minorities will in some way be offended by the words 'Merry Christmas'. Most don't give a damn and it's the bleeding heart brigade who make an issue out of it.

Had a conversation about this to my dad who works for an american multinational. He said its gone absolutely crazy in the states and that by right he's supposed to say happy holidays...this is absolute crap...which he knows and still says happy christmas because he is celebrating the birth of christ. Over in america they are trying to call it the winter holiday season now! what a load of rubbish! He was saying he wishes people happy chinese new year and wishes them well on ramadam. The world should be learning to get along knowing about diversity and differences in belief not trying to make it all a big secret and creating a world full of people afraid to offend others beliefs. just my €0.02.

Actually Mr. Nice Guy you're 100% wrong! The reason I say happy holidays is because I grew up in the middle east and almost everyone around me got the holiday but certainly didn't celebrate the holiday! Why would I say Merry Christmas to someone who doesn't celebrate it or someone who doesn't even know what it is exactly!!! It's out of habit from my childhood that I say happy holidays so next time you go accusing me of "buying into nonsense" think it through first!

Yeah right. Your own words on this thread were:

Ethnically correct? What a load of nonsense.

You seem to be a typical victim of the PC brigade. Absolutely terrified that you might offend somebody. Get over it.

You can't detect the sarcasm there? Who would get offended by being wished a happy/merry Christmas. You just gota appreciate that most of the world doesn't celebrate Christmas! To non Chrisitans living in dominantly Christian parts of the world all Christams is is a few days off of school, college, work etc! Hence, it's just a holiday! Saying happy holidays makes sense in this context! I don't say happy/merry Eid-Al-Adha, Mawlid an-Nabi or Ramadan to any Muslim friends I have when they come around!

There was no sarcasm there. Stop inventing tales. You even say in one of your posts above:

Your position is that it is offensive to say 'Merry Christmas' because some people don't celebrate Christmas.

    I'm telling you that's rubbish.

    I'm telling you that's rubbish.

You're making no sense! I'm in New York right now and I have found that few people say merry/happy Christmas! This is due, I presume, to the fact that it is a very ethnically diverse place and a good proportion of the population don't celebrate the holiday. Not once did I say it was because people got offended by it! What's the point in wishing someone a merry Christmas when all it is to them is a holiday! I'm not saying it's wrong, I'm just saying I see where people are coming from and it has nothing to do with offending anyone! You're looking at this very narrow mindedly!
