Mario 64 DS and Mariokart. Warioware is pretty entertaining but quite short.

Sonic Rush is supposed to be very good. Avoid Mario 64 DS. The N64 game is brilliant but the DS controls don't really suit it. Not really suited to the handheld format. Kirbys canvas course or magic paintbrush or whatever it is called in europe is fantastic. Mario Kart is a great little racer. Advance Wars will keep you occupied for weeks as will Castlevania but both are hard to find in Ireland. If you are into importing pick up Pheonix Wright Ace Attorney. It's a great little text based game that is really funny. If you like puzzle games the best one since Tetris is Meteos. It's currently my favourite DS game. It's like digital crack. This list doesn't even list the excellent selection of GBA games available.

Super Mario 64 is great, but I would think that's only because I never played the original on N64, so I'd get it if you haven't already gotten it before.

Sonic Rush is really good fun, one the best DS Games in quite a while, it can be really tricky moving at such speeds. I believe it's a must-have.

Advance Wars DS is brilliant if you're a fan of the series, or just into strategy type games, if you aren't into strategy you might want to pass it, but if you are, you should most certainly buy it.

Mario Kart DS is one of the best if not the best DS Games out now, you shouldn't own a DS with out at least taking a good look at this game.

Kirby Power Paintbrush is good fun, but it's a little slow-paced, but not too difficult, I'd say it still ranks up as a good contender. I've played it a lot since I got it (Today), it's a great game really, hard to say why.

As for don't gets, I know you shouldn't get Yoshi Touch and Go, I never purchased it myself, but I've played it on a friend's DS, and trust me, it's just not any fun, it's slow and frustrating. Where it really misses out is the lack of any sort of Main Game, like Story mode, it's pretty much a few boring modes (About 3 >_>).

I dunno about that now. I have an N64 that is in regular use and even though the DS controls aren't ideal for Mario 64 it's still good. I'm getting used to the controls with the DS now. At first it feels wrong not to have a joystick but you get used to it. It has some cool new features too and some levels have changed, eg. Boo's mansion no longer exists and there are loadsa mini games too.

I'd say go to Game or anywhere else that has a trial period so that you can return a game within a week if you decide it's not for you. DS games are fairly expensive so worth having the chance to exchange. I bought Meteos as part of my bundle when I bought my DS last week and because Gamestation(UK chain) have one of those policies I got to get Mario instead which I prefer.

definetely mario kart and also star wars revenge of the sith if you can pick it up cheap short but so much fun

TBH, I really like Super Mario 64 DS! Once you get to grips with the fact the controls are slightly funky, you've got one of the most well-designed platformers ever.
Sonic Rush is great fun too... if you want a good 2D platformer it's probably your best bet.
Don't forget that you can play GBA games on the DS, which gives you the option of playing all the Super Mario Advance games on your DS, and also the 3 Sonic Advance games (which can be fairly cheaply acquired). Also the wonderful Astro Boy: Omega Factor :)
Mario Kart is great fun, at it's best in multiplayer though so definitely get this if you've got friends who have the DS.
Meteos is crack. Pure and simple. I managed to scratch the touch screen on my DS because I was playing it so much. (there's a vertical pattern of light scratches on my lower screen)
WarioWare is very short, but really good fun while it lasts. Also the GBA ones, the original and Twisted.

It's a shame that they are dreadful.

There is only one game you will ever need for your DS:

    Ossu! Tatake! Ouendan!

Don't be put off by the fact that it is a rythm action game, it's the Game of the Year by a long shot. It's the most fun game I've played in a long time. Predictably it must be imported, but costs peanuts and is pretty easy to come by.

Also Mario64 DS is great fun as long as you aren't expecting much beyond the N64 version, and it's controls aren't as broken as some will say they are.

Also SonicRush as has been said is great stuff.

I got a DS with mario kart and i also got Tony Hawks american sk8land (yes, there is an 8 in the title)

mario kart is fantastically addictive, really must play it multiplay (if any of yez are in trinity i'll be up for a game :D)

tony hawks is like the ps1 games and is very fun, if you like the series. good laugh and the controls are the same. seems kinda short though :p

I got the game recently, and it's fantastic. The music is insanely catchy and the stories(what i gather from the images any way) are really cheesy. Great game over all, haven't gotten to try out the wireless play yet-looking forward to it thought.

Kirby power paintbrush is probably my favourite of the games already available over here, though I only have it for a few days so the charm may wear off after a while.
Yoshi touch and go is a big gimmick, but a really good one if you can find it cheap.

Advance wars is excellent in both multi and single player, though it is to a certain extent unfair if you pick certain CO combinations. Still a great game that any ds owner should have.

Meteos is great, very fast paced and addictive. It looks and sounds really good too, best enjoyed in multi player in my opinion.

Electroplankton is my favourite game on the system overall, it's not for everyone, and you do really have to be into your music to enjoy it. It's also a game you can only really enjoy when you're on your own with no outside interference.

Gamestop and Game, like 1huge1 said, and try Smyth's as well. Shop around, because you'll occassionally see shops charging as much as €55 for certain DS games, whereas none of them should cost you more than €45.

On topic, Project Rub is only €15 in Game's sale. It's a series of minigames all built around the touchscreen and/or microphone. It looks and sounds great, though there are only a handful of genuinely good minigames. Definetely worth thinking about for €15, though.

Nintendo Touch Golf is good fun. You use the stylus as the golf club, which is a neat little gimmick. The presentation is strangely bland and soulless for a Nintendo game, though. It would have been nicer to have Captain Olimar's Pikmin Putting, or something.
