You are in a large multitable tournament a long long way from the money. Blinds are 200 400, and you have 14k. Villain has more. You have a slightly above average chip stack. The villain of this hand only got to this table a few mins ago and you dont have any read on him yet. You get JTs in the cutoff and make it 1200 to go. The button makes it 2400. You call. The flop is 9 9 2 with two hearts. You check. The button then moves in putting you all in, (note that this is a big overbet.) Call or Fold?

Have just had the pleasure of reading thru the above thread and got to thinking about the hand in which I went out of the fitz €500 game.

21 players left 18 get paid, though 10-18 only get their €550 entry back.
    Blinds are 1.5k / 3k
    I have 30k = Average. Villain 40k ish.
Villain has been at the table for about two orbits and I have him as LAG player, he's been very active.
Folded to me in the SB with 9h-10h. I raise to 7k ?.
Villain in BB calls with 6d-3d and the flop comes 10 high two diamonds.
Pot is 14k And I have 23k.Thinking my top pair is good and happy to take it down there and then, any reasonable bet and I will be pot commited, so I decide to push all-in for 23k ?.
Villain thinks long and calls. He may also have a gutshot str8 draw as an out as well as the flush draw (not sure on this point though).
Turn is blank river Kd and I'm gone 3 off the money.:(

Your expert thoughts on my play in this hand please.

This isn't an expert thought but I don't see where you went wrong here. You were just unlucky. Your image as a TAG would make most players fold on the flop if not preflop to be honest.

He made a bad call on the flop if all he had was a flush draw.

Offtopic: could someone very briefly explain LAG and TAG?

LAG = loose aggressive, TAG = tight aggressive.

Crazy call by him risking almost all his stack on a 2/1 shot, and thats assuming his 6 high flush draw was even going to be good imo.

    LAG= Loose player and aggressive
TAG= Tight player but aggressive (when he acts)

The hand doesn't really apply to the paul phillips thread, as the situation in that was far from the money. In this hand, the villain either played it very badly, or very unorthodoxly. I say unorthodoxly, because very few people i know would call off nearly their whole stack on the bubble with only a flush draw. As for how you played the hand, i'd have said raise more preflop if you were going to raise, as most people won't defend their blinds on the bubble, especially with 63. On the flop, your push is good, and his call is again very fishy.

Again, thanks for your input guys.
i'd have said raise more preflop if you were going to raise,

Could'nt agree more. I did think that myself in my own post hand analysis.

One aspect that bothers me though, is it wise, late on, to be tangling with practically a maniac player.

You're trying to accumulate chips and you got your money in with the best hand. If you win this pot you're in great shape. I would have no problem tangling witha maniac player at this stage cos the chances of him paying you off are greater than the chances of him knocking you out. Then again, my tourney record is horrific so what do I know..:o

In short, yes, its very wise. Most players on the bubble don't want to commit a lot of chips for fear of being knocked out, so if somebody is willing to put a lot of chips in as a big dog and put you in a very favourable chip position for the rest of the tournament, i'm playing a lot of hands with that person. The result isn't whats important here, the decisions are, and he made some highly dubious ones.
