Happy Christmas everyone. My letter to Santy has asked for a few minor things. I want a final table seat in the wsop 2006, to meet (and beat) more of the boards players in real life and finally to be able to out argue Hector just once next year. All in all I expect Santy to deliver on this but I did tell him that I would understand if the third one was just too much. See ye in the new year.

Somebody had to say it :)

It finally leaked to the family that im a tad bit addicted to poker as the gifts i received show: super slick chipset in a brief case, automatic shuffler machine and loads of random poker books (I'm sorry :( most of them are absolute cack for people who dont play poker /scrouge)

Merry christmas to you and yours

So true, most of them are ready for the bin, and will be there tomorrow,:( although the GF managed to get lucky with Anthony Holden's Big Deal which I was going to get anyway....

And as for all the different types of Cards, etc. I didn't know so many existed. I got one pack with 3 bullet holes in them, and a leather pouch that attaches to your belt. :D

See, you've got to be smart about these things, thats why i made a list of what to buy me if they were going to get me poker books. As of this morning, i now have TPFAP and the Cloutier championship series:D

Also, Ste, i'm reading Big Deal at the moment, and its not great. It's obvious the guy is more of a writer than a poker player, and as such there's too much description and not enough poker. Its also a little dated, being set in and around 1988, so there's no real insights on the current boom.

Its obvious the guy is more of a writer than a poker player? Much and all as I admire the many fine poker books written by players, few of them are truly great writers. Holden is, and his book, Big Deal, is excellent. For those without any interest in poker, it still manages to capture the interest of the reader, and I would not hesitate in recommending it to anyone. I got it as a presnt last Christmas, and it was finnished by New Years. Enjoy Steo.

That's more what i mean though. It's geared more towards the person who doesn't play, so as somebody who does, he hasn't really gotten my attention, at least not yet. I'm only a couple of chapters in, so maybe my opinion will change by the end. As of right now though, it doesn't hold a candle to, say, Positively Fifth Street.

I have to disagree. As the first poker novel I ever read, I very much enjoyed it. I loved reading about all the poker legends. Although you are right, it is geared more towards a begginer rather than an advanced player, which I was when I read it.

I got The Education of a Poker Player by Herbert Yardley today. Its mentioned as "the bible of poker" in Big Deal so I was happy with that... how wrong I was. If you think Big Deal is dated, think again. Its not terrible, theres a couple of tense poker hands. Im sure it was groundbreaking back in the 19th centuary but not anymore

Happy Christmas and New Year everyone!

P.S. Why is it I can't beat people who refer to a flush as a blue and don't like burning cards as it somehow is too confusing?

No brothers and other degenerates that happened by our house. Although I did renege on going to a 5-card draw 'classic' that was on locally.
