I really really thought they couldnt get any lower but they've done it with possibly the most disaponting 21 minutes of television ever, I'm talking about this years xmas episode. Random World War 2 stories and 6 minutes of musical tripe.

I cant understand how its gotten so bad?

I used to be the biggest Simpsons fan ever - but have refused to watch any new episodes since about mid-way through Season 12.

It's just horrible - i just re-live the better times with the DVD's / copies of the great episodes of the first decade.

The new musical ones are always the worst (that goes for Family Guy too, Meg's "gotta buy me a rainbow" thing was complete sh*t)

take your pick from any episode of the simpson from season 10 onwards. they are all ****.

I can't watch them recently either, but the Hallowe'en ones have always annoyed me. Don't think I ever laughed at them.

Would have to agree but I foolishly decided to follow season 17 just see if they could pull them selves out of the rut but no joy. Their p%ss takes of family guy are terrible compared to family guys(stewie running over homer was legend)

Their p%ss takes of family guy

Haha, now that I have to see. Any ideas which episodes they are in?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,584 ✭✭✭✭Creamy Goodness

they are trying way too hard to compete with family guy, plus i think it's safe to say they've ran out of ideas but it's not just that that makes the show cringe worthy now. the animation is sub par, the comedy is pure american - wasn't before - and the voices seem totally forced.

all these factors together made me lose interest in the show.

on the other hand, futurama, now there's a good show :p

There was a blatant one in s17e08 which was obviously in reply to a lot of Family Guys recent bashing of the simpsons. Cant remember the simpsons joke exactly but it was like the were talking about copycats and looking at pictures and then all of a sudden there looking at a picture of Peter Griffin.
If you can bring yourself to watch the episode you'll see what I mean ;)

The simpsons got **** after Conan O'Brien left. Im a big fan of family guy, bought the family guy movie: stewie griffen the untold story. I actually cant remember the last time I laughed so much! My DVD of the year!

Word of the wise, season 4 of the Family Guy is appalling as is the "movie" that was released.

Futurama is now the only show not to have gone through a bad period but thats because it had its life cut short.

South Park has really picked up with the last season and is once again a quality show!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,584 ✭✭✭✭Creamy Goodness

tbh i didn't really like the family guy movie at all. it just seemed so forced.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,186 ✭✭✭✭Sangre

Loved the movie myself, a real step away from the forced flashbacks.
Season 4 had too many crazy flashbacks which just stalled the flow of any dialogue.
Notice that they've started splitting up the story-line so there is too distinct stories in one episode? Bad omen if you ask me.

But the movie I loved. A story along with flashbacks that didn't halt any progression. The Ferris Bueller's Day Off thing was pure, pure genius.

Family Movie I found to be a bit meh. thought the writing was fairly dull. Season 4 is a bit hit and miss but i still love it so. season 1 and 2 for xmas, yeah baby!

The Simpsons had its day. The earlier episodes were woeful . However I still watch it religiously

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 44,200 ✭✭✭✭Basq

Thought the Family Guy movie were very meh - definantly not as much of a fan of FG now in Series 4 / 5 as i was of Seasons 1 - 3.

But still mostly funny and fresh... and unquestionably better than The Simpsons recent "efforts"

thw worst episode was the musical when thewy are watching tv and snake keeps joining in on the musical by climbing in the window

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 942 ✭✭✭Bodhidharma

I hate the one when they go to brazil. Stoopid. Anything after season 8 is poor. These days its so ridiculous, back in the day it was funny cos it had a bit of realism in it. Marge talks way too much now also, her voice, jesus!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,589 ✭✭✭✭Necronomicon

Yeah, the newest one was tripe. I think the new ones are all generally rubbish, anything in the last few years. Although I did like two of the other newer ones that followed that episode on sunday; the episode when Homer becomes charitable, and the one where Liam Neeson converts Bart into a Catholic
"Yer just like your mother--can't take a punch!" :p

Was that the Hallowe'en special one where Homer finds a magic hammock that he can use to clone himself, clones himself one two many times, and finds himself in a land of Homers, one of whom is the "Frosty chocolate milkshake" Homer and the other is Peter Griffin? :)

Nah its an episode from the new season where homer has to go to italy to pick up mr. Burn's new car.

The one where they killed off Maud Flanders.

There have been plenty of episodes that stink out loud... this one however had long term effects on the potential quality of the program.

Ned and Maud were a double act and they were broken up for no good reason whatsoever.

IIRC The Simpsons didn't win ANY Emmy for the last season. The first year, (I think) that it hasn't won anything.
This season has been a *little* better... but if it fails to win any Emmy for this season, combined with the movie, it may signal the start of the end perhaps.

Fox would still rake it in from syndication.......

Oh and the Xmas episode was dire.

I'd have to say the worst episode was the Armen Tamzarian one. What were they thinking.

Although I rarely watch any of the newer episodes and they could easily be worse.

Amen. That episode just sucked. It had no storyline whatsoever and I felt like bashing my head on the wall as I was watching it.

The Great Money caper was another one that was unwatchable too. Marge gets drunk, a large fish falls from a Russian satellite, damages the car leading Bart and Homer to conning people, they go to a fake trial to teach them a lesson, then just as everything is about to be cleared up Otto runs in and tells everyone that "surfs up" and everybody goes surfing. I think my brain comitted suicide while watching that episode.

I think the worst episode from pre season 10 was either the Armen Tamzarian one or the one where Marge gets a fear of flying. I hate that episode, it's just so boring. Just like Marge.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,511 ✭✭✭Rozie

It's amazing how bad the Simpsons is compared to ANY Family Guy episode.

I find it interesting that they call Family Guy copy cats when the Simpsons has been attempting to copy Family Guy's random snse of humour, with terrible results.

They should probably do a last episode of the Simpsons, put them to rest. I haven't really laughed at a new Simpsons since 2000.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 21,296 ✭✭✭✭gimmick

^^^ I cant see one instance where The Simpsons has ever tried to copy Family Guy. Sure, both have had similar storylines, but lets be honest, there are only so many storylines lines out there, and it is difficult to be original and unique all of the time.

Im going to go totally against the grain here, and disgree with you all vehemently. The ARMAND Tamzarian episode is a classic. There are so many good one liners, and passages of dialogue.

"Explain to me one more time, where are we going............................"
"A rose by any other name would smell as sweet.............................."
"Talk like that makes me want to marry you, instead Im leaving town forever"
"Oooh a fresh batch of America Balls"
    "Are you asking me out?"
    etc etc etc etc

Personally I think thats another great episode, as I feel any episode were Homer and bart team up, are generally very funny. Yes, its completely ridiculous, and makes little sense, but some good jokes all the same.

All the new stuff is diabolical but the lastest one the op was talking about was the worst simpsons I have ever seen in my entire life. Awful beyong belief - its getting to the point where the ratio of good to bad Simpsons will tip in a series or two unless things pick up.

Some of the newer stuff has gotten so bad, its changed from genuine humour to forced cheese that's really scraping the bottom of the barrel.

I thought the Armen Tanzarian episode was great - there were alot of laughs. Not the best but by no means at all, imo, a bad episode by any stretch of the imagination.

I absolutely hated the musical episode. I don't watch much of the new stuff these days, I find them too boring, cheesy and forced.

Still though, there's always a place in the heart for Simpsons, however much I love FG. Just watching it this evening - Burns in the bathroom, when Homers writing his Mr X reports in the cubicle - he's trying to talk to Smithers, and is struggled against the scathing force of the eh....hand dryer. :D

Very funny. Moments like that really make me re-evaluate whether I truly love FG or Simpsons more!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,892 ✭✭✭madrab

last episodes i remember watching were the one where homer gets hipnotised & we find out about smithers dad, crap & the episode where it was split into 3 episodes about bart finding the fireworks, lisa building a robot & homer doing something really stupid hurrendus episode, even that monkey at the end saying this episode made no sense was like them admitting they didnt know what they were doing anymore

also practically all the clip show episodes, especially the musical one....eughhh

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,511 ✭✭✭Rozie

The Surf's Up episode was pretty good, I thought. Not the best but AFAIK it's not too recent more 99-00'ish, so it was probably quite good. The Simpsons peaked it's humour around 98/99 I think.

are you joking me??? FAmily guy is a load of ****e...if it wasn't for stewie the whole thing would have been dumped in the garbage can a long time ago..at least they came good with American Dad..way better than FG and my favourite at the moment...agree that the last couple of years the simpsons haven't been much better but overall they're miles better than FG

Family Guy is funnier than recent Simpsons, definitely.

I don't especially like it though, a lot of the humour is pretty low-brow. Not to mention the fact that it's very, shall we say, close to the Simpsons. Fair enough McFarlane made a comedy about a family, but did he really have to have so many similarities with the Simpsons? Like why did the family have to be set up the exact same way - 2 parents, 1 daughter, 1 son, 1 baby - hmmm, sounds familiar. FG is funny but the jokes are disconnected from the plot most of the time. It's as if they came up with a load of jokes first, and then thought of ways to make a story out of them. It should be the other way round. And American Dad is just essentially a FG clone. The exact same formula is used.

considering there are only about 6 voice actors for all of simpsons i somehow doubt that.

The one where bleeding gums murphy dies and all this dire music is ladled out by the bathful as if anyone could actually be moved by the death of a cartoon extra in a tv show? baffling. Auto-switchoff.

She only did one main and one sub-plot character. Looks like she's re-joined the Simpsons since 2002 but the link explains her departure http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0744648/bio

The Poochie episode was pure sh1t but it was nothing compared to the musical episode-wtf was that about
but i try not to focus on the bad ones but focus on the good ones like "You only move twice" From Season 8. Homer leave the power plant and joins globex-That was the simpsons at its peak after then it went downhill.

The one where mod dies... awful.
Wasn't that episode written by some random fan though? Think I remember seeing something unusual in the credits or opening.

They also hit a new low in the episide where homer has to save marge from the car derby (or whatever it was), and he does the whole pop-eye thing... completely destroying the kind of simpsons reality/universe... it's hard to put my finger on, but I found it dissapointing and un-funny.

Nah, at least that one had a coherent plot. Haven't really watched the Simpsons in about four or five years (classics excepted), every time I do, I regret it.

They really should have given up years ago, it started to flag about the time Futurama came along, but it's been getting worse ever since. For some reason, though, it's enjoyed a renewed popularity lately. I think it's due to the fact that, in the beginning, it was designed so that stupid people were made fun of without realising it, whereas nowadays it's just made for stupid people to laugh at.

And recycled jokes? What's that about?

The most recent haloween episode where mr. burns hunts all the men in springfield.

EG. Moe somehow ends up impaled on weathervane and says"oh well, better take this lottery ticket and scratch it...oh my god! i'm a millionaire" then all of a sudden chief wiggum lands on top of him and kills moe...

so stupid. like why would ya just take out a ticket and scratch etc.

as for the best,Hank Scorpio's one or The 22 short stories about Springfield one wasnt too bad

i lost track of simpson around 1998 due to not having a tv for six years (boarding school)

when i came back to them the episode i saw was the one where they went to london.

worse episode i ever saw...until i gave them another chance earlier this year.

then i saw the one with 50cent...now that is the worse episode i ever saw.

i've gone back to watching MASH on Paramount. (another series that starting dieing towards the end, but at least it told a story.)
