Look at the picture close up. Angry person is on the left, calm person on the right. Now move away from your computer and they will change sides.

Would be interested to know how they did it.

kinda worked for me, I'd glance at from a distance and I'd see calm on the left and angry on the right but when my eyes focus it switches back to the other way (same as viewing from close up). Pretty cool even at that

Nope they stayed the same for me.

edit, ah 5 metres! I dont have that much space but I went back about 3 and saw some change.

    Mike.

No you can see it if you just stand a good bit away from it...I'd say they did it using some form of black and white colour trickery...

ah, you make lazy man get up and walk a few meters :D

ok now everyone at work thinks i'm strange for backing slowly away from the computer. Thanks Hobbes now my street cred and reputation has crumbled.

still it was a pretty cool pic effect

Probably depends on your eyesight. Let me test it.
Yup, with my glasses on I back up as far as I can with little change, but without them it works with about a metre.

Yeah worked for me, kinda weird!

I guess it's a case of the brain filling in the gaps. At a distance, the bright lower lip on the face on the right is interpreted as bared teeth. The light area around the jaw is ignored making the face look thinner.

The same process on the face on the left has the opposite effect and from a distance has a smoother appearance too.

It'a about the way our brain interprets colour, white, black and grey.

ah it does work. but i think i'm aided in that i'm short sighted, so one blur looks more angry then the other blur, so to speak

I think it's the way it's slightly blurred from a distance.
    And precise up close.

I didn't really move away, just squinted my eyes & it worked. Pretty cool! Could never see any of the magic eye thingys..

Each face is made up of two different drawings. One drawing is more noticeable up close, by using more intricate detail, and the other is more noticeable from far away, by using blocky shading. The blocky shading isnt noticeable upclose, so your eye concentrates on the detail that gives the impression of angry/calm. When standing far away, your eye cant pick up the intricate detail and so instead gains information from the blocky shading which is more noticeable at a farther distance without the detail getting in the eyes way.
