I got a freecom FHD-2 Pro on ebay, just arrived.

Works fine ..except the top aluminium casing is completely off it !!! looks lie a residue of rubber cement or somethign on underside, so the inside is totally exposed.

Will I go thro the cr*p of sending this back or is there some reasonable way to fix this . what product is used to hold these on (neither side is screwed on in anyway)

appreciate the help folks (happy christmass too)

If its only glued on, I would send it back and buy a decently made drive. If it can't take delivery, in a box. How long will it last with you hoofing it around in a bag?

One thing life has taught me is that when it comes to 'packing Goods' the world is full of 'Ejeets' .....

Whether it's truck loads or small packages, if the packing design is left to a 'so-so' individual (and not to a tried and tested formula) you have a 50:50 chance of a $$$$$-up .....

Freecom's support links are here..... http://www.freecom.com/ecsupport.asp

Why not give them a call or email them?

If it was originally bonded in place I can't see any problem in removing the old adhesive and re-bonding

It sound like it was bonded together...Y/N??

Just clean off all the old paste/glue...sand it down if you need and then try reglueing or drilling/screwing.

Got a cheapo 2.5" case from a cheapo shop and had to drill 2 holes and screw it into place properly...now that was precision engineering ;)

whatever glue you use this is going to be a one shot exercise .... i.e. once you glue it that's it for ever ....

You could use a two part 5 minute epoxy resin adhesive ... available from most DIY shops ..... use elastic bands to hold everything in place and leave it overnight to really fully harden

Whatever you use, just make sure it only bonds the case to a suitable surface and is not going to get into anything it should not touch (use the existing old adhesive for a guide to location and qty) .... rem to remove old glue before you apply the new adhesive

the top aluminium casing is completely off it
Send it back, these things don't just fall off.
Sounds like someone popped it open to do a quick-fix and off-loaded ASAP, hoping it would work long enough to give him a quick profit :D

    Send it back

Upon mature reflection, I wonder if that might be the best advice ....

    Hate to remind you...

A portable drive takes a few knocks even if you don't use it that much. Needs to be reasonably robust. This one sounds like a lemon.
