    "Hiccups" -

    .. and try some of the oul reliables:

    - sugar water
    - holding breath
    etc.

    Oh.. and courtesy of Wikipedia:
    Psychosomatic

    * Distraction from one's hiccup (e.g. being startled or asked a perplexing question)
    * Concentration on one's hiccup

    Swallowing

    * Swallowing three times while holding one's breath
    * Eating particular foods, such as peanut butter, chocolate, sugar or honey, Lingonberry jam, wasabi, vinegar
    * Eating a spoonful of granulated table sugar (slowly letting it dissolve in mouth)
    * Inserting one's thumbs in one's ears, closing one's nose with one's index fingers, and drinking a glass of water
    * Drinking a glass of water in several small sips
    * Drinking a glass of water "from the wrong side of the glass", i.e. bending over a sink so one's head is upside-down when drinking
    * Drinking a glass of water with another's palms against one's ears
    * Drinking a glass of a carbonated beverage (with salt)
    * Gulping down a glass of water while holding one's breath
    * Drinking a glass of water several times successively.
    * Eating an ice cube

    Respiratory

    * Breathing slowly and deeply in while thinking 'breathing out' and breathing slowly and fully out while thinking 'breathing in'
    * Breathing slowly and deeply in and out through the mouth
    * Holding one's breath while optionally squeezing one's stomach
    * Breathing deeply through the nose, then exhaling slowly through the mouth
    * Exhaling all the air from one's lungs and holding one's breath while swallowing water or saliva
    * Blowing up a balloon
    * Inducing sneezing
    * Breathing into a paper bag or other sealed container (Only attempt this in severe cases of hiccups that have persisted despite other attempts at cures. Perform this sitting or laying down, and with someone at your side to ensure safety. Stop as soon as you begin to feel lightheaded.)

    Am I the only person old-fashioned enough to spell it 'hiccough'?

    I'm not -that- old.

    NTM

    this way is guaranteed to cure hiccups:

    1. hold your nose
    2. slowly drink a glass of water
    3. continue drinking until you feel like your drowning

    your body thinks its drowning so turns off any unnecessary muscles, including the muscle spasm in your throat that is the hiccup

    As far as I know, hiccuping is when your diaphram spasms, not your throat though! Deep breaths are one way, or taking your mind off them completly... Dunno why, but that always works for me.

    yea diaphragm, but my way is guaranteed to work, if you simulate drowning correctly while holding your nose

    I usually try and simulate an armed robbery but drowning may be simpler :D

    The guaran-damn-teed Daddio approved method is to drink a glass of water upside down from the opposite lip of a glass. Always works for me.

    Get someone to shock you, by telling you something really unexpected. Last time I got them my gf told me she was pregnant. Worked like a charm.

    Hicups are caused by trapped oxygen in your diaphragm or something? Breathing in and out of a paper bag will usually do the trick. (breathing in the carbon dioxide which you have filled the bag with will force your body to free up the trapped oxygen) Probably a load of rubbish tbh, but it works for me anyway, if I can ever find a paper bag when i get hicups....

    ahaha, that sounds like a STD or somethin :p

    When I have... "hecupus" ;), I hold my breath for as long as I can and it tends to go away (after I've passed out unconscious on the floor)
