I have been listing to Ricky Gervais podcasts http://www.guardian.co.uk/rickygervais/for the last three weeks. Now here's the thing. I s Karl Pilkington a real person or a actor. I am almost convinced at this stage that Pilkington. Is a creation of Gervias and his writing partner Stephen Merchant. What do you think.

He's real alright. He's not so unbelievable anyway, I know someone just like him. We all do.

He's 100% real, Ive been listening to him since 2002 on the XFM show, its where the idea for the podcasts came from, and alot of the stories used in the podcasts were first told on the XFM show.

Yep agree that he s the real deal. And so would anyone who would have listened to the really early Xfm shows when Karl was just the producer and no more.Ricky and steve would turn to him an odd time for an opinion and crack up with what he came out with. They brought him more and more into the show as the years went on.

Yeah, its funny listening to them "discovering him" I dont doubt that some of the stuff is a little staged, or replayed but its brilliant listening to it.

I'm pretty confident that he plays up to the character a lot. If you look at some of the culture show stuff, you can see him trying not to laugh.
