i was wondering what make/ type of round ye use have heard many claims about subs but found there no good unless you get a head shoot.

tryed a elay sub hollow extra recently took a shoot at 40 or so yards hit hit it keep moving shoot again but still not dead went and retrieved the rabbit and proptly finished it off:( :(

found i conected with head and chest, both of the shoots should have killed. stoped using round after that as i would not like to cause unnessesary pain to the animal very disapointed in round

is this an isolated incident /common occorance or was it just a bad round ??

Have always found Eley SUbsonics to be good, though they don't seem to hit as hard as Winchester Subs, they're more accurate though. Lately I shot a fair bit of Lapua Subsonic, and it's great on paper, but a lack of rabbits in the area at the moment means no practical experience of them.

    Scout,
I use Win Super X & Ely subs for my .22 & find them both very effective. The best shot you can take is behind the shoulder of the rabbit as this causes the round to enter the heart thus resulting in instant death. Also ensure your rifle is zeroed & you are shooting your target to that range. Head shots sometimes not the best option.

I find CCI 40gr Subsonics very effective for rabbits,

For .22wmr I'm using the Remington Premier polymer tipped rounds - some might say overkill/too pricey etc. for rabbits but I find them to be great.
Very very accurate anytime I do a bit of target practice with them and every box I get shoots the same.
That CCI stuff is good too.

When I had a .22LR I always used the Eley subs - great stuff IMO.
Thinking of going back to LR again.

    Macnas,
Nice pic of your rifle.A friendly word from thew wise;) .Hope you got a permit from your local super for the NV sight mounted on your 22,plus "suppressor".
NV have to be liscensed if mounted on a firearm. It's in the offensive weapons act of 1992? Which no doubt of course you have ,the permit. In case there are any "hostiles" reading the board.

Eley hollow points are fine for rabbits up to 6o metres or so,they also have the advantage of being cheap and they dont make a whole lot of noise.I tried cci subsonic hollow points and they were no more accurate and quite a bit more noisy.

for my .22wmr i use 40g JHP can shoot them were i like and they'll die instatly

i think the lead tipped ones are the best they spread out when the hit and tumble and rip everything to shreads

im not sure if they're available in .22 though
