    Hey its me

do any of you's scan around for wireless internets on your laptop or pc?
or Do the Dxing stuff from the past?

im asking is cuz iv always been interested in this its become a hobby and i'd like to LEARN more and see whats out there

    i have 2 places
    at home and at work
at home im in the sticks i have broadband 1 meg its wireless but unsecure cuz my nearest neighbour is 5 miles away so im safe .. plus whoever comes can just login ( we have alot of visitors )

at work it is also unsecure which we know is a bad idea and which we know we should at least password up and in the next year we will password it up

now i have laptop and a wireless card and i went for walkies outside the office up and down and i got 2 down and 3 up

the 2 down i attempted to login the password was admin and got in no problems but i couldnt do much as surfing or anything
the second one i didnt try it said looking for network for ages

so then i walked up the road and i picked up a belkin and a netgear ( at the time i didnt know the default belkin and netgear password so i couldnt get in

im in dublin at the moment

me and my uncle are gonna build a high gain yagi Antenna which together we will go around in our car scanning for networks.

I believe this going to be a 21st century hobby for like minded people
The hobby of Dxing has been around for a long time Beginining with short wave radio and short wave radio listeners and scanning.

Do you have any links/info i should read up on

    anything will do Really.

i currenlty use the default xp scanner for windows
i have tried net stumbler on the pc but on the laptop later on today i scan around with netstumbler

do you have any tools i should use

    thanks

O'Reilly- 802.11 Security and O'Reilly-802.11 Wireless Networks- The Definitive Guide (outdated but a good basis) ...read up on the basics first. otherwise, you're just an idiot in a car with a dodgy relative and an antenna..

DXing is quite different to war driving.

It's like the difference between a Hacker and a Cracker.

It's like the differnece between helping others and sharing knowledge and being a parasite.

kismet only works with some cards because linux support isn't available on all cards, heres a list of cards that work on linux.

Aye don't bother with dell laptops with the built in wireless cards, they're pretty much all unsupported.
