Have you mapped a new network drive? Sometimes if your mem stick can't find its expected drive letter it needs to be enabled agaain in Computer Management

Have you reformatted it at all lately? Maybe if you did you didnt reinstall the actual usb ports drivers or would this be done automatically?

no its not coming up at all. no usb device is working
Check your USB isn't disabled in the bios.
Re-install USB 2.0 drivers - They're still not standard with Win XP pro.

Even without drivers it should be recognised and run in USB 1.1 mode.

Not much help but have noticed that XP will sometimes temporarily stop detecting the connection of devices in a particular USB port. Have you tried each of the other ports?

Other than that you could check the hardware detection on another computer or using a bootable knoppix CD, so you can determine which among Computer/Windows/Pen drive is the issue.

They are in SP1 and higher though.

Are any USB devices working, or is it just the memory stick? If nothing works then either Windows has become corrupt or you Laptop is fubar.

Try doing a system restore back a week or two and see does it work then. Maybe something you installed has fuked up the drivers? Longshot but it might work.

Ive come across this before, XP pro sometimes hides the drive letters.

Go to Control Panel, and start Microsoft's Tweak UI Powertoy. On its My Computer tab, make sure the drive letter of your drive is using is checked (just check them all). Any drive letter that's not checked there will be "hidden" in Explorer and My Computer.

Run system restore -restore form the date that you knew it was last working
