no, you dont need a hdtv, both xbox360 consoles are identical, only thing diff about premium, is more accessories, (and a chrome dvdtray)

Tbh without hi-def I don't think it's worth buying though it will work.

    tbh that's rubbish.

games look nicer on hdtv, sure... but it's hardly not worth getting one unless you splash out on a new hdtv.. at the moment, the games aren't really exploiting the power of the xbox as it is. i'd assume halo will be the first game to PROPERLY use the 360. until then it'll be "decent" or "good" games all the way

    tbh that's rubbish.

I beg to differ. Having played COD2, PGR3 and PD0 extensively and switched between Hidef and normal on my 42" plasma the difference is very noticeable. So much so two mates who were interested in buying one have decided to put it off until such time as they've upgraded to hi-def first having seen the difference first-hand. As one said "I'd always feel like I'm missing out on a huge part of the experience".

Why pay a premium for a new console and games when you can't use it's potential? It'd be like buying a new Porsche 911 with those 'donut' spares on all four wheels, the engine might be great but you can't appreciate it....

Considering a HDTV will cost many times more than the 360 does I don't think it's like that at all. Putting a 360 under a SDTV is more like kitting out a cheap car with a top of the range stereo and the like, if you must use a car analogy. And I don't think that's an unreasonable thing to do.

If you havent got HD then the graphics on most games will look quite similar to xbox 1.

they are an improvement, but like i already said, the graphics on the current games that we have available to us aren't taking advantage of the machine yet, so spending that kind of money on a new TV is a waste. by the time 360 games are properly putting use to the GPU/CPU HDTV will be a viable option cost-wise

i've seen loads of arguments about this sort of stuff. seems to me the people who spend truck loads of cash on hdtv's are trying to justify to themselves that the money was worth it - rather then waiting for the damn things to reach a reasonable price

Heres a nice comparison for anyone who hasnt already seen it:-

    http://www.gamespot.com/features/6140621/p-2.html
After taking a look at nine Xbox 360 launch games and comparing them side by side against their Xbox counterparts, it's clear that we can't automatically assume that the Xbox 360 version of a game will be significantly better than the Xbox version, especially if you don't have an HDTV.

But thats only talking about games ported from the orignial Xbox, of course they are not going to be amazing differences. Look at Kameo/PGR3 and other games only on the 360 and it pretty obvious the visuals are way ahead of what possible on the Xbox, even in SD.

You are right of course, good point.

    Anyone got a HD/SD comparision for 360?

I've heard people are buying computer monitors to work with their Xbox which would give almost HD quality images for way cheaper.

I plan to buy the 360 when Halo comes out and I’ll buy it with a nice wide screen computer screen and save me a lot of money.

Then when HDTV comes affordable to the average Joe I’ll invest.

Nothing 'almost' about it, a HDTV is really only a up to date computer monitor with a tuner and AV stuff added in. Yes the screen is not as big but then neither is the price.

Does anyone know where I can get a hd - dvi adaptor or a hd - vga adaptor.

asumming the crt can ouput a res thats roughly the same as 720p or more, it wont work better then a tv on a 14" IBM thing you found in the attic, if that's what your asking :p

ive heard this too, but wouldnt a smaller screen reduce the wow factor of a hd game?

I too am waiting till halo comes out and since i have the sammy 32", it will be happy days.

But till then ill be saving up as now the price is too steep for me, if it does get cheaper ill get the premium bundle and then wait till halos out.

Surely for HD xbox 360 the image should be bigger than that?
That are both SD images (480i) so you can compare Xbox graphics to the 360 graphics on a level playing field.

    Dunno.

I've played Halo on a tiny screen and big screen tv (not as big as urs but maybe one day!) and I dont real think anything different. Only thing I missed on the small screen was the surround sound!

I heard dell do a v decent 20 inch screen and when you're up close to that then I dont think you would miss the whoo factor.

What I'dlike to do is either get a good deal on the Dell 20 or 26 inch screens or save up for the Samsung 26inch screen the display models come with.
