I just heard about a billboard add that has three girls in lingerie on a bed eating hunky dorys with a caption saying "Which one would you throw out of bed for eating in crisps?"

I have never seen this add, is it anywhere on the web? Great advertising!

    (From the Independent)

ADVERTS for Hunky Dorys crisps have been deemed "offensive, exploitative and degrading to women".

About 60 complaints were lodged with the Advertising Standards Authority for Ireland (ASAI) against the campaign, which pictured three scantily clad female models in lingerie.

The ad's slogan said: "Which one would you throw out of bed for eating Hunky Dorys?"

The ad was described as "degrading to women, displaying them as commodities and as sex objects".

Parts of the ad, created by the Chemistry agency for Largo Foods, had been ripped from a number of advertising spots.

Yesterday's report from the ASAI recorded a "relatively large number of complaints", according to CEO Frank Goodman.

"Some complainants referred to women using public transport at night who might be uncomfortable or intimidated near the poster at bus stops," said the ASAI report.

Other concerns were that men or boys would view women as sex objects and of the effect the ad would have on viewing children.

"They considered that the advertisements were overtly sexual and promiscuous, not suitable for the very young or impressionable teenagers and a blatant exploitation of sexuality for commercial gain."

The majority of the complaints focused on the ad featuring the three women, although there were a number of objections about a similar ad featuring men.

However, the advertisers said the campaign was to reflect the brand of Hunky Dory, which is "young, fun and vibrant" and the ad was a parody of old-fashioned advertising standards.

"They stated that it was never the intention of the advertisers or their agency to objectify women and that was why there were two executions of the concept, one featuring females and one featuring males," said the report.

And while the ad has raised praise from others in the industry, the ASAI did not agree, holding up the complaints and saying the use of the images were inappropriate in a product which is attractive for kids.

In the latest bulletin from the ASAI, a total of 18 advertisements were examined and 16 were found to be in breach of the codes of advertising standards.

Another ad, for the TG4 clothes show 'Paisean Faisean' also attracted the ire of radio listeners.

The ad for the fashion show featured a man telling his girlfriend to put on stilettos and a mini-skirt to which she responds that everyone would be able to see her underwear.

"Not is you're not wearing any, they won't," is the reply from her boyfriend.

"The complainants also considered that the advertisement implied to young girls that it was the norm to not wear underwear," said the ASAI report.

TG4 said the ad was showing what men want.
