I reckon its a winner takes all event.
Usual thing though...half the people entered will be disconnected players
and some lucky so & so can just raise each hand and collect the blinds.....

The format will be the same as alll the other piggy point tournaments. The discons are caused by the piggies paying points and not showing up. Entry for the tournament is 200 points and 1 million points are up for grabs. Payment structure (indeed payment) is organised by pigsback so you would need to contact them regarding that.
Good luck to all the piggies!
What would you do with 1 million piggy points? :P

Only allowed 10x€5 (5000 points worth) and they're free bet vouchers, not for use on the poker.

The tournies aren't usually winner takes all, think 1st gets 50% but after that can't recall.

I have to say that drives me mad, if there is somebody next to a a couple of discons they can not help but win, especially when the blinds go quite high. I sent a mail to PPP about this and they said there is nothing they can do. Surely the s/w provider could just remove these players from the game?

Master no. The system sees the player as disconnected as the player is not logged in. This is the same state as the player would be in were they legitimately disconnected (not logged in). In live poker players are not removed from the tournament along with their chips if they are absent so we cannot adopt this policy online either.
Dont get me wrong, I agree it is infuriating and really if you register for a tournament giveaway or no you should try to play it or not bother in the first place. I am looking into alternatives as in Live poker after a circuit a blind is taken each round.

Blah.. If you can convince Pigsback to deduct the points I will have you registered for the tournament.
mail me your ppp user name and pigsback member number and I will contact and see what I can do.

Even though on pigsback they say
'Are you looking for something to do with your PiggyPoints
Why not cash them in for Paddy Power Poker vouchers?'

I see your point, would it not even be possible to say if a player was disconnected when the tournament started and remained disconnected after 15 minutes or 10 hands of play that they could be removed as it would be unlikely that they will ever log on. I've played in a few tournaments where this happens and it totally ruins the whole tournament as those who are positioned next to discons have such a massive advantage.

I know what you mean but it is plausible that a player could experience a disconnect prior to tournament start (post registration) so you could imagine how inundated we might be with "i was discon, YOU REMOVED ME!". Also if we apply this it would apply to all tournaments. Including STT 1x1 etcetera.
There is a solution required though, as I have experienced it on other sites and it is highly unpleasent.

    So...

Which sites have you enjoyed playing on most? Have you any recommendations?

    ppp-pit boss or karl?
Can software be adapted for giveaway&freeroll tournaments to combat 'no shows' where on registration players are greeted with a 'use it or lose it prompt' along the lines of "If you are either disconnected or logged out upon the start of this tournament you will be unregistered automatically"?. just an idea for freerolls and giveaways only.

    If not
Only open registration for giveaways and freerolls 2 hours or so from start of tournament. This would stop a lot of no shows registering a day or so in advance and not bothering or forgetting to turn up?.

discon's should not be treated any differently to anyone else and as long as they have chips then they have as much right as anyone to be in the tourney!

you say it ruins the tourney?
players who are sitted to the right of discons have a huge advantage! how?

Because the player just has to raise and the software will automatically fold the discon's hand. People further right of the discon doesnt have the same luxury as they still have a live player or more to get through before the discon's turn.

Unfortunately the differentiating factor in a giveaway / freeroll / paid tourney is only a buyin field so the answer there is a no Im afraid.
Do try to do this with a lot of giveaway this tournament we are talking about is not free it costs piggy points to enter (but the perceived value is a connection). Ideally I would like to emulate live play and charge a full blind each hand after a circuit. But is this a harsh approach?

Ok. and the idea of only opening registration closer to the off?

yes i understand that but we're only talking about a blind here. its not a big deal. and the player can only do that if there is noone else in the hand already.imho i'd say it much more to do with the pyhcological aspect of some player picking up easy chips than the fact that they can build a stack easily. so the player who has the grieveance get in the pot or "shut up" cause how is this differeent to any other bb steal?

PPP pit boss leave it as it is. it balance's out over time!;)

Yes I completely concur here. Whenever we have done this it has cut down somewhat on the discons. However with Pigsback it is an invitational tournament so it is closed to outside registration and this tournament is in fact the best onsite example of discons going!

I've played in several pigsback tournies where there were people from UK & US who had never heard of Pigsback and have joined what they see as a cash game through whatever skin they are using, so it obviously IS OPEN to outside registration !!!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 914 ✭✭✭PPP-Pit Boss

No it is not. It is an invitational skin specific tournament. There was one single occasion where the tournament was not posted as an invitational and in that case other players did get into it (ONE ONLY) even in that case US players never played as the tournament is PP only and we do not have (permit) any US players on our site.

    about that...
when I was living in canada
I didnt have any hassle logging on
I know for a fact with vcpoker...and Im pretty sure yourselves as well

Does anybody have any idea of the prize breakdown for this tournament, I came 9th and was wondering if I'd get anything?

In live poker players are not removed from the tournament along with their chips if they are absent so we cannot adopt this policy online either.

    This is a bit misleading:

    1. In any live tournament I am running, players are removed from the table after a few rounds if they're clearly not coming back.

    2. Just because something doesn't happen in real life (even if it does) wouldn't mean you can't adopt that policy online. In live poker people can't multitable, for example, or (generally) play wearing only their underwear, but on Paddy Power I have been allowed do this.

Also to those who think being on the right of a disconnected player is a big advantage, it is, but you also have a substantial advantage wherever you are on the table.

To play in the tournaments players have to have registered a real money account. Thay are automatically forbidden from setting one up if they are from the US. The only explanation is that they set up Pigsback accounts, registered PPP accounts under european addresses and never deposited funds which would usually check if the address is correct

Either way, Americans are terrible at poker, you should be grateful :D

if someone pays the entrance to a tourament, they should have the right to sit in it even if they don't do anything. it's a simple contractual issue imho. if i buy a cinema ticket, i have the right to watch that movie, even if i choose not to go and see it. think it is as simple as that. if you pay, then you can play, the organiser shouldn't be allowed to throw you out just because you might not turn up.

    ::::APPLAUDS:::::

Absolutely. And once again I point out that the software sees a disconnected player as not logged in. Therefore to introduce this rule in a country where broadband penetrations is still under 5% would be a terrible move.

my account id is "Roundtower3" on paddypowerpoker...

Pigsback are sending me an updated list and I will post this as tonight's tourney. You should be on it then, will let you know.

They should have taken down the reg page but since it was left open, certain players were not registered by our deadline.

    Thanks,
    Karl
