Recommend me a +200bhp car

Im looking to get something nippy early next year, firstly im not fussed with how many doors it has, 4/5 would be nice, but not essential. budget is less than 20k, year not important, history etc vital, looking for a naturally aspirated engine. Anyone any ideas, im not looking for someone to look up carzone.ie but examples would be good. No Nissans, im not being a snob they just dont do it for me.

I've seen a few audi a4's with the 2.8 litre engine, all seem to be gone, something along those lines though, if anyone see's anything let me know.

E46 325Ci/328Ci - seem to go for a reduced price in Ireland due to quite a limited market (insurance/tax costs). Not sure if it falls in budget, might be lucky with an early release model?

You could also pick up a 1999 or 2000 BMW 530D.

So you're ok to tax / insure / afford the running costs of a larger than average petrol engine?

May I ask why? So diesel is out of the question? What's your annual mileage? This last question is more important than you might think. If it is low (like mine) and you have a very long NCB (like I do) and you're getting on a bit (again like myself

Why go for an A4 / 3-series? If you don't want a turbo and it has to be petrol get much more value for money. How about a BMW 540 (E39). Or seeing as you seem to like Audis, perhaps an A6 4.2 quattro. Merc E500. All three are V8 petrol of course

Or go the ultimate in luxury and get the bigger brother of any of the above

That is unless you do indeed not need the extra doors and want to go for a sports car. Others here will no doubt bring up a few interesting suggestions

R33 2litre Gts Skyline,granted its a nissan its well within your budget,looks good,endless amount of parts available,rwd,not the quickest in non turbo version but the gtst goes like stink and again is well within your budget and over the Hp you want.

no dont like the nissan, 944 is not bad at all. what were they like in reliability terms.

Whats important with a Porsche is condition, condition, history, history, history, history, history, history, history, reciepts, reciepts, reciepts. But well looked after they should be ok. They are built like a tank. BUT....its a Porsche. Running costs are high. Its not a family saloon. Its wise to put a budget in place to cover the cost of running it.

GTS-T isn't thats fast standard. ITR would be faster. What about an Accord Euro R? 2.2 220bhp?? RS200 beams??? 2l 202bhp?

I'd assume the "naturally aspirated engine" is too avoid the max power jap toys. But a NSX would be sweet. The skylines do nothing for me though

Go to the UK and get previous shape 535i sport. If you can manage it, how about an 840ci? Sticking with Germans if you want 4 doors and fast a Merc C43 AMG could be quite useful, all can be had in great nick for £10k

Not over here for another while. If you import from the UK though, you'll get close

Hmmm you seem a bit vague with regard to what you actually want. Just changed mine over the weekend and picked up a Volvo C70 T5. 240bhp with a 2319cc high pressure turbo. It's a big car that packs a punch but its extremely comfortable and well kitted out as standard i.e leather seats, 10 speaker stereo, dual air conditioning etc.

It's more of a cruiser than a sports car. So if you're looking for that kind of thing it's an option.

If you are looking for more of a fun driving car and are less bothered about comfort, its not.

why does it need to be a 200bhp car?ur the person spending the money and iv u want to spend more on petrol tax insurance be my guest but hey if ur looking for something nippy why not go for a seat tolado 110bhp 1998 up until 2004 i think.now these things a very nippy and u can tune them to 150 bhp they will literly lift you off the road and they have a very nice fuel consumption its diesel id get it if ur not to pushy bout diesel petrol.and i dono why u want a 200bhp car anyway they speed limit here is only 60mph(what ever that is in km/ph) last time i checked ur not going to be going full speed.but what do i know im only 16 :rolleyes:

not very much obviously, the OP wants a car with 200bhp for his own reasons and you are quite mad to suggest a 110bhp car, im sure they're fine cars and your parents have one but thats no reason to suggest it when the mans looking for a 200 bhp car, my suggestion would have been a BMW 530d aswell, i know your fond of your diesel cars already Hashslinging!

a dc5 itr would be top of my list, but you wouldnt even probably get one for 20k lids.
a cl or sl merc, no idea, but maybe a 98 99 model. might be had.
of course, these are all sports cars. but thats just me........

You expressed interest in the 944 earlier, then how about a Porsche 968?
Should get one for less than 20k, blow most of the others away in a straigh line and untouchable in the twisties.
Named best handling car of the year by Autocar when it came out. Only forgoten about because the Boxster is probably even better.

Keep it long enough and you'll have a classic too.

When I get my full ncb back and clear off a few points I may go for one of these myself!

Lancer Evolution V pick one up for €17-20,000...... 280Bhp as standard, and of course there so much fun to drive, nothin like the being thrown into the back of your seat at every gear change!!!

thanks folks, the NSX is crashed and repaired, (had previous damage cat-c(reg)otherwise id jump. prolly gonna see what comes into the dealers as trade-ins to get what im looking for, but it looks like some of the suggestions are spot on. A BmW 97 - 98 540i would be just what im looking for, also the hondas will be looked at with interest, as I'm really starting to enjoy driving the accord we just got. I dont really do the miles to justify the diesel anymore.

Love that merc..thats when mercs where built to last...different aswell.
keep away from rx-7's ridiculous money to get rebuilt...and it will need it...thats why so many are for sale around that 60k miles figure which is when it needs to be done..someone said type-r integra.. great car but uncomfortable..really uncomfortable...for me an e36 m3 would be the choice..if insurance and petrol are not a worry( which they aren't as your looking at that barabus beast!!!)
look for an BMW alphina b10 very rare but really nice grunt..my uncle used to own one and you can pull through any gear massive torque...and understated aswell...
only thing about that merc looks like some yardies probably owned it...and who would service it properly risky buy.
