My new PC will be SATA, does this mean I can't use my IDE drive on it? I would like to transfer files etc, and it's 200gb, would be a shame to waste it.

Not sure....but you could just get a IDE -> USB adaptor which would allow you transfer all the files to ur new system.
SATA and IDE are different connections so I presume they wont connect into each other

You can put your old IDE drive into your new sata system on the IDE connector without any problem. If the IDE drive is bootable just be sure to select the SATA as the boot device in the BIOS. You can then transfer over your data or even leave it in the system for data backup purposes.

Like Cal said - SATA motherboards have IDE connectors for CD/DVD drives. No reason why you can't attach your IDE hard disk to it.

Thanks guys, now what's the best bang for buck pre-built out there?

Say, up to 2k to spend

start a new thread for that.

Something I thought should be mentioned is that newer motherboards are being made without IDE ports, or rather only one IDE 100 - for CD/DVD drives and the like. but like suggested above, you can get adapters (though I dont know how well that will be... SATA drives arent great for keeping cables in)
