    Old news I believe.
Who wants to void their warranty to fix an Microsoft problem?

Doesn't just putting your xbox into a horizontal position stop 99% of the scratching?

doesn't NOT MOVING your xbox whilst playing stop the scratching?

Yes "NOT MOVING" your console does stop the risk of damage to a disc, but haven't we all moved a console when it was powered up and a game playing? To move a cable, insert another controller etc.
So M$ decided to not put in the foam protection or ask the maker of the drive not to bother putting it in or even they didn't do enough testing until it was too late.
The first batch of the orignal Xbox had the same problem and if yea look closely at the llamma.com post you will see they show old Xbox DVD-ROMs with the same fix.
Just another M$ feck up, which they get away with by putting a warning in their manual.
I bet you won't see Sony doing this.

Nop, just lowers the risk of the unit moving when a disc is spinned up to a high RPM as the units center of gravity is lowered.

well the ps3 will be a disc-loader (no tray, everything's fixed and secure - avoiding future ps2-esque "disc read errors") like the psp is now.. so they pretty much eliminate most of the problems with having a tray that slides in/out

All the problems with the PS2 are caused by the cheap laser, nothing to do with the tray. The PSP and PS3 will be just a susceptible to this fate if they use crappy lasers.

well i had the disc read error in my ps2 about a year or 2 ago. opened it up to see if i could fix it (i did so temporarily), and the laser was pretty damn good. electromagnetic and all ;)

but anyway, given the ps3 is using blu-ray, the laser would have to be top-of-the-range... particularly in that sony's really the only ones developing the technology (ps3, i would assume, will be the showcase for blu-ray)

and sony wouldnt think of using cheap blu ray lasers so ppl would have to buy another ps3 just like what happened with a lot of ps2's?..........lol, your dedication to all things sony knows no bounds.

How can anyone look at a console thats out and slate it then say you can bet this wont happen with a console none of the general public has used yet, is still in protyping and is using new technology untested in the masses.

Because sony wouldn't ever **** up and abuse its customers in some sinister MS type way... Aye right.

I think some people forget that sony are the kings of launch time bugs and not giving a crap about customers. To say that sony wont do this or that is laughable!

what you're forgetting there is that sony is split up into different companies that don't really have much to do with each other. sony bmg don't have anything to do with playstation, so when they put **** like that on cds, you can't blame the guys working on playstation

i've never had a major issue with sony. i had disc read errors on my ps2, got it replaced and sony gave me a free game for my troubles. i had dead pixels on my psp and it was replaced no problem. my xbox broke within 3 months of purchase and microsoft didn't want to know. i had to go to consumer affairs before microsoft would fix/replace the xbox

As is MS - people actually are turned off buying an xbox because their windows crashes. Just like i'll never buy sony again since they started installing root-kit anti piracy software on PC's without the user's knowledge.

I find this extremely hard to believe. They operate a courier based pick up, repair and deliver service while under warranty. Either there were other circumstances you're not mentioning or your the unluckiest person that ever lived.

oh i know that. but despite my rabid fanboyism and hatred for windows/bill gates/microsoft, i own an xbox and 360 premium :)

yes i'm aware of this service... but they didn't offer it to me then. the console wasn't doing anything (turned on alright, but didn't read discs)... no other circumstances. i'm not the only one who got the cold shoulder from MS either... but of course sony's given the cold shoulder to people as well.

Question, and this is not getting at you by any means just trying to understand something here. If you hate, windows/bill gates/microsoft so much and by the looks of it have no respet of liking for the xbox support. Why on earth have you bought two of their consoles. I'm also assuming here that you have a pc with windows on it (feel free to correct that)

From reading past posts its apparent that you have a love affair with all things sony (for reasons best kept to yourself) so I'm just curious is all.

That's so funny. Really. You're cracking me up.
Let me see if I've got this straight:
You called up support within the warranty period and they refused to honour the warranty.
Is that what you're saying ? And you can prove this ? And you have some evidence that this has happened to others too ?

    Quick alert the press...
