Is this any good?, what's the closest thing that would be like it?. I'm thinking of picking it up but don't know what to expect, I know the premise of the game but don't really know what you actually do in the game.

Closest thing i think you could compare it to would be Harvest Moon on acid.

It's supposed to be quite similar to the GC Animal Crossing, which is a very good game. The following description is based on the GC game!

It's very hard to describe, especially if you're trying to make it sound not crap ;) Basically, you spend most of your time visiting other animals in the village, delivering items between them for rewards, decorating your home, collecting interesting and unique junk, fishing, gardening, writing letters and stuff. It sound cack, but Nintendo have pulled it off so well.

If you're into trying to complete collections of things (did you ever have a premiership sticker book by panini?) then it's very rewarding. You can sell any fish you catch to buy furniture or you could donate them to the museum to help complete the museum's collection (they also have insect and fossil collections). The interaction with other animals is cheerful and never gets repetitive. I'm not sure, but I'd assume the EU version will get the same excellent and often hilarious script as the US version, written by Nate Bihldorff and Bill Trinen of NOA.

It's also a huge experiment into the scale of things you can achieve in a game with a creative team and no internet access. Special stuff happens on certain dates (like christmas, halloween, etc.) and the GBA link stuff is impressive. There are codes that were available on Nintendo's website to unlock unique items in the game.

At the end of the day, what the whole game comes down is a furniture collection sim. There are plenty of things to do on the side, but the enduring goal throughout the game seems to be getting a high rating from the Happy Room Academy based on your choice and positioning of furniture and decorations. It was this realisation that led me to eventually shelve the game, but I did get a lot out of it, and my wife got even more out of it.

The fact that Wild World is online should allow them to truly realise the potential of this game style. I'm sure there'll be all sorts of downloadable content. My wife's getting it for christmas, so I'll give an update then :)

I loved Animal Crossing on the Gamecube... but the main problem was that I couldn't always be there for some of the special events that happen on different dates and different times.

I'd find myself staying in on a Saturday night just so I could meet Totakeke.

That's why I've been waiting for Animal Crossing WW (It's currently in the post to me) as I'll be able to take it with me all the time.

The gameplay would be like The Sims or Harvest Moon... but I always found them to be more like hard work simulators, where as I find Animal Crossing to be a far more chilled out affair.

And it will also greatly appeals to the part of the human brain that likes collecting things.

Doesn't look like it's due out here until the end of March.

My copy arrived in the post yesterday. It's great although possibly not much of an improvement over the GameCube version.

I haven't got the wireless internet part of the game to work yet.. so that should add a lot to the game.
