Why the hate towards this album?Maybe Nas wasn't as good as he was on Illmatic, but listen to Small World,Nas Is Like etc,his flow is incredible. The production, outside of Lost Tapes and Illmatic,is the best Nas ever had backing him up.

Just listen to NY State of Mind,Small World,Favor for A Favor,We Will Survive,Ghetto Survivors,Life Is What You Make It,Big Things,Nas Is Like and Money Is My Bitch again.Better then just about everything he made afterwards.

After stillmatic I am is my favourite nas album, not everyone hates it just allot of people who loved illmatic dont like it because its an entirely different kind of album.

Yeah I'm not that mad about Stillmatic though,I got sick of tracks likes One Mic,Get Yourself A Gun,Rewind,2nd Childhood pretty quickly. The intro though,Ether and Your Da Man are classics imo.Basically it goes like this...

    The 5 Mic Albums.
    Illmatic.
    The Lost Tapes.

    The Rest.
    I Am...(4.5 Mics)
    IWW(4 Mics)
    Stillmatic(4 Mics)
    Streets Disciple(3.75 Mics)
    Gods Son(3.75 Mics)
    Nostradamus(3 Mics)

I Am got bad reviews because it came after illmatic and couldn't live up to it, no matter how good it was, it not a bad album by any means, it has one of my favourite NaS songs on it ( NaS is like) but its still not up there with the rest of the albums he's done
    My list:
    1. Illmatic
    2. Lost Tapes
    2. Stillmatic
    4. Gods Son
    5. I Am...
    6. Streets Disciple
    6. It Was Written
    8. Nastradamous

Some of the songs on I Am are weak, i mean K-I-S-S-I-N-G, No one else in the room off SD reminds me of it aswell, i think its just the cornyness of it, also some of the beats dont work too well imo, im thinking of I want to talk to you especially, im not a fan of Dr.Knockboot either.

His flow is as good as it was on Illmatic, the production is great on most of the songs but its just not as consistent an album as Illmatic and doesnt have as many stand out tracks, if any song off Illmatic was on I Am, it would have been the best song on the album, along with NaS is like.

I dont see how your could grow tired of Rewind and One Mic, i think they will go down as classics along with the Intro, Ether and Your Da Man which you mentioned and some others off that album.

All his albums have come after Illmatic, that can't be continually used as an excuse for his albums getting bad reviews. It Was Written was his second album anyway.
Ironically the album was supposed to be a double album but the second disc was leaked. A few of those tracks from the second disc are on The Lost Tapes, so that's where he was lyrically at the time. The Lost Tapes being great and I Am.. suffering from what I think all Nas albums (bar Illmatic and The Lost Tapes) suffer from and that's too many filler tracks.

I Am... is a fairly solid album but it has never grabbed my attention like some of his other albums. Some of the songs are just annoying, K-I-SS-I-N-G is Nastradamous bad. I'm not a big fan of Hate Me Now either. On the other hand Nas is Like is a great track and the standout one from the album. I don't know why, but I've always felt indifferent about the album.

Without going into a rating system, my list of Nas albums in order of preference would be the same as Ubu's but God's Son would be thrid, Stillmatic 4th, and It Was Written would be 6th and Streets Disciple 7th. If I cut out the filler on SD it would rank higher than It Was Written.
