Oooh! I'm really trying to remember the name of a game we had last year... It was a board game as far as I remember, you roll the dice and move around, and if you land on certain squares you take a card. The card has either (a) a general knowledge question, (b) something for you to DRAW -- blind-folded, (c) something for you to fashion out of play-dough type stuff, or (d) someone for you to do an impression of.

I'm dying to remember the name, but I can't! If someone knows, help me out here.

Anyways, my brother brought it down last year and we had a blast with it! Very fun game, and lots of variety.

One of the impressions I had to do was Winston Churchill... but I couldn't remember a thing about him, so I sat on a chair and pretended it was a wheelchair (of course, Roosevelt was the one in a wheelchair ;)), while holding an invisible machine gun and making "nerr-err-err-err" noises to represent WWII.

Needless to say, they didn't quite get it, but it was a good laugh anyway :p

    EDIT:

Yeah, thats great. I got it in America.
I played the UK version and it was harder. Lots of English references I didn't get. Strange how I know more American Culture, than English, and I live here.

Don't forget Trivial Pursuit... comes in all sorts of categories now.
It's up there with Monopoly as a seasonal family favourite.

My game on Christmas is the escape game. Trying to sneak out of the house and away to a christmas day party without the mother catching me and goin bananas. No boards or pieces or fake money, just a blast a cans under your arm and leg it out the gap, if you win the rewards are great. :D

yeah we got that last year, infact my mam got the genus edition, where the questions are as hard at the table it was on, we spent most of the time giving hints, but it was all good fun, thats what its about.

Hopfully this year we will get the 20th edition one :)

If you have a PS2 try Singstar or Buzz. Singstar basically involves singing and trying to hit the right notes. Buzz is a music quiz game where you have to guess the right song. Hard to describe but it's kind of game show style? That seems to be really popular as a family game this Christmas. A better description can be found here.

Was playing trivial pursuit last year, would recommend it. Funniest question i came across was, made my sides split trying to imagine it.

What was Saddam Husseins election campaign song?

I Will Always Love You by Whitney Huston :D
