No, welcome to IBB, your service will be crap. 800 is good.

I take no pity on anyone who gets ibb...

You really should have had a look here before you ordered IBB. Problems with them are very common.

Consider yourself lucky I have an IBB Ripwave that should be 512k - I get less than 45k most times.

Don't bother contacting support, they don't seen to reply to emails and if you manage to get them on the phone, they will more than likely blame your computer settings

    800kps is still good

You're not getting what you paid for. Tell them you want to cancel. If they refuse, get in touch with comreg.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,373 ✭✭✭Irishpimpdude

I dont really count myself lucky tbh! if i was lucky i would have ntl!!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,373 ✭✭✭Irishpimpdude

I ask can i cancel she said yes but if you do you are liable for the installation charge and the remaining 12 months!!!!

IBB are absolutely ****. You really should have researched a bit first!

When you ring them, mention breach of contract and Comreg. :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,373 ✭✭✭Irishpimpdude

Im back on the fone to them this guy seems alot more helpful

Tell them you'll pay for the service when you get it. You're supposed to be getting 2Mb (or fairly close). You wouldn't pay full price for half a sandwich, would you? The law will be on your side for this one.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,373 ✭✭✭Irishpimpdude

Yeah i know the dick said they would ring me back there trying to find out the problem... but ill give them an hour then ring them back... im just gonna ring them all the time until they sort it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,659 ✭✭✭PowerHouseDan

It doesnt work they dont sort it out the only way is to cancell the contract ask anyone here.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,373 ✭✭✭Irishpimpdude

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,659 ✭✭✭PowerHouseDan

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,373 ✭✭✭Irishpimpdude

Yeah thats what she said to me... Hopefully it is better over the weekend...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,523 ✭✭✭optiplexgx270

I'm sorry I didn't catch the title of this thread, did you write that you just installed a headache?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,373 ✭✭✭Irishpimpdude

Yeah i think you did understand i ment to say "Headache just installed"

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,943 ✭✭✭Mutant_Fruit

Drop em faster than a hot tomato. Get a refund on the installation, get the equipment out, and tell em they are in breach of contract. Which they are. As for the feeble excuse of "that highsite is new". They have the exact same problems on Three Rock and Tallaght, and they are the first highsites to have gone up.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,012 ✭✭✭✭Cuddlesworth

Agreed take some screenys and internet test to show how crap the service is then run, if it gets better most of the time a week down the line it goes bad againn.

Oh yeah the operaters lie through their teeth

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,373 ✭✭✭Irishpimpdude

Well if its not better over the weekend ill be canceling... im now getting 125kb/s upload when i was getting 53kb/s earlier and still 80 download

Its going to go up and down like mad, They really use the contention ratio unlike most other providers. My best speeds are at the early hours of the morning

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,373 ✭✭✭Irishpimpdude

Haha they better not be lying to me! and btw my uncle gets 240kb/s up and down :( and he is on the north circualar road

When a IBB connection works it works really well.
If on a mast at that 'ISSUES' then it rarely works as it should.
The sevice is patchy dependind on where you live and bu how much they have overloaded thier network.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,240 ✭✭✭tywy

my ibb works great....i got it there about 3 months ago....I tried to get it in may and couldn't. Now I think I'm on one of the newer towers....it goes great for me...I'm getting 100 up and down on bit torrent with a 1Mb connection. I can't really complain :P I was just lucky. Although I had a ****e time with eircom so I suppose I deserved a bit of luck

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 210 ✭✭HomunQlus

    @Irishpimpdude

Trust me on that one: You would have been better off with NTL... we had IBB in our house and got ANGRY about their speeds. Like someone says in his sig - IBB TRULY IS a vocation of the damned.

You think it's gonna get better? Well good luck... I'm glad I have constant ~350 KB/s with NTL - we had a 1 Mbit connection with IBB and best we constantly had in the end were 2.5 KB/s. A modem is faster for cryin' out loud.

Well... good luck with IBB...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,373 ✭✭✭Irishpimpdude

Ntl is not available to me... :(

Contact the Office of Consumer Affairs on Monday morning. You are fully entitled to call them as a consumer. You are NOT getting the service you purchased.

The law will probably not be on your side unfortunately...

The skeptic in me would imagine small print in the contract referring to contention ratios of 48 or something like that or poor SLAs

Pity you can't get NTL. I've been with them for 2.5 years now and speed = full speed. Always. So my 3mbps connection means 350KB/s-400KB/s download

Right to Clear this up, Cos lads i have Heard everything, Done everything, Contacted everyone about IBB, He has a 24;1 Content ratio
    84.KBPS
which works out about 9k a Second?
So Unless the Service Falls below that, And if it does, Screen Shot it. Packet loss everything....After that point IBB have broken there contract with you.
Another option would be to cancell your Direct Debit...
I Dunno what IBB would do about that.
But Really there your two Choices.
People Say i will keep ringing and Ringing, Been there tried that, i Have bills to show over s 2 month Period i made 148 Phone calls to IrishBroadband and it doesnt work. Legal Action Doesnt work. But showing them prove that they are breaking contract works, They will try to Fob you off by saying oh we have Mast problems. Bull thats Ibb speeds for you. I have been out of my Contract 2 months now. They still have there stuff on my roof. They took money last month even though i am not legally in a Contract anymore. I have Filled a Small Claims against them. They Lied 3 times saying my Bank Refused the money into the account, Got prove from the bank that this didnt happen. I am Currently owed 148 Euro from them.

Right lads, i was thinking about setting up as a broadband provider soon enough. I was going to get a leased line off eircom and then resell it onwards. I'll get a 10meg line (SDSL of course) to start off with. My basic package will be 10meg each way, no download limits, no time-based ****e, all for a mere €30 a month.

Of course, the service is going to be at 200:1 contention. And i fully expect to have at least 50 people trying to download at the same time, so don't expect to get anywhere near the 10meg speed you're paying for, but don't worry, its fully legit, i advertised a 10meg connection at 200:1 contention! As for packetloss, expect up to 50% due to the severely congested network i'll be running. Forget about VoIP!

Now, who thinks that would stand up if someone decided to lodge an official complaint with one of the governing bodies (Comreg or even the advertising board). I don't think it would. Thats pretty much exactly what IBB are doing, except instead of 200:1 contention, its 20:1 (i think) and instead of 10meg speeds, its 2meg.

In this sort of case, i think the law would favor the consumer.

At the beginning I was really píssed off with IBB, however, they were only minor teething problems. I think it is a great piece of kit!

Anyone else in the Raheny area. If so how are you finding IBB??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,373 ✭✭✭Irishpimpdude

Im finding it ok atm 100kb/s up/down which should be around 215 each way and pings of 10ms average...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,414 ✭✭✭kdouglas

in general, the law will always favour the consumer

however id go over the contract in detail and check for clauses

IMO, youd have a case as long as you can prove the connection is consistently below an acceptable level

tell them you want to cancel your connection in writing, if necessary get a solicitors letter outlining sound legal reasoning as to why they are in breach of contract and contact your bank, again by writing, to cancel your direct debit or other payment method, make sure to keep copies of everything and send them all by registered post

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,373 ✭✭✭Irishpimpdude
