Got my annual pass for Dublin Bus - in a fancy leatherette (or maybe leather, actually, not sure) case and all! Oh, it's going to be great not having to go and buy tickets or fish for change all the time.

you have to get them through your job - different prices for different tickets.

the one I have is annual short hop bus\rail - costs €910. This is already cheaper than 12 monthly tickets, but the best thing is that your work takes the payments out of your pre-tax salary so your effectively getting it for 52% of the actual price (42% tax, 6% PRSI).

Annual ticket is normally the same as 10 monthly tickets of the same type but and its a big but

Bus and Bus & Rail are valid on all the expensive services like Nitelink and Airport so they are quite handy

Tax relief could chop +40% off the cost and also allow you to pay monthly

They can be bought by anyone but the tax relief is only available if done through your employer

I had it 2 years ago and it was extermely handy. If you use CIE services all the time then its really a good idea. A private bus started going to my workplace which was quicker so i didn't get it for the following year.

The tax-efficient passes are any pass valid for a month or more, talk to the bus company / your boss and see if an arrangement can be put in place.
