Quick story: My Mum posted a DVD to me nearly three weeks ago and registered it via SwiftPost (according to her). I always assumed that parcels sent through Swiftpost would take less than three weeks to deliver to Canada (I still haven't received it).

Has the postal workers dispute been resolved in An Post yet or is national and international mail still suffering?

EDIT: From the An Post website (www.anpost.ie):
It should be noted that unlike Swiftpost Exprès, Swiftpost International is not a guaranteed service, nor is confirmation of delivery available on these items.
Interesting. I thought that Swiftpost was quite like registered mail, in the way that delivery is guaranteed. Regardless, it still doesn't deserve the moniker "Swift".

Isn't Swiftpost supposed to be next guaranteed next day delivery within the Republic?

It's certainly supposed to have a guaranteed delivery date. Are you sure it wasn't just sent registered post?

EDIT: Ah... Swiftpost international... that must be new.

I'm pretty certain that it was Swiftpost, but my Mum can get confused sometimes. Then again, she hasn't sent anything through SwiftPost before AFAIK, so the name would stick with her. I can't phone her now to find out, I'll have to wait until tomorrow. :-/

I'd like to find out what the postal situation is in Ireland at the moment. I've been extremely busy, so I haven't had the chance to sent Christmas cards yet (I'll send them all off tomorrow). I accept that they probably won't make it to Ireland before Christmas (they probably wouldn't without the threat of strikes etc, especially the sheer volume of mail that An Post workers have to work through this time of year). Is the threat of strikes by the workers still as possible as ever, or are things getting back to normal?

Well I think stuff has been going out of Ireland okay. It's coming in where I've found the problems to be and it can take up to 3 weeks to get a package delivered when before it would have just been 5 days.

Cheers for the update. I've sent two small packages and a letter (two registered, one normal post) and they got to their destinations within a week or so. I have had a big delay in getting mail (even registered mail) from Ireland since I moved to Montreal last September.

I've very worried about this DVD now. Three weeks for a small package is pretty ridiculous for regular mail and is verging on the ludricous for SwiftPost.
