A small piece of public transport history occured last Friday with the final journey of the classic Routemaster London double decker bus.

End of an era but really it's been on the cards for years and TBH I think it's OK for them to go now. The bus is unsuited to modern requirements in a number of areas. Also they are held in great affection by lots of people so they will be lovingly preserved by enthusiasts, museums, used on heritage routes etc. There should still be loads of roadworthy RMs about in 50 years time so the bus will live on. The Brits seem to have much more interest in transport heritage than we do over here.

I was in London on Tuesday and saw a few of them but hadn't realised this was their last week. They'll be sorely missed on Oxford Street - it seems to be like an elongated buspark and being able to jump off/on without having to wait for the bus to crawl to the stop was handy.
