    Hi,

I'm off to prague tomorrow with the gf for 3 days, but I have heard a lot of horror stories re. dodgy taxis. Apparently there are only 2 safe taxi firms?
Its hardly worth renting a car, and i don't trust public transport, so can anyone reccomend a taxi service?

    Thanks.

TBH the trams and busesare fab and its easy to get around so you wont need a taxi most of the time.

B4 using a taxi, agree on a price/rough price, and stuff is so cheap over there that even if they rip you off it will be only be by a euro or 2.

Wonderful city you will have a great time.

prague is littered with trams and they are so cheap,

when i was there (summer time) i stayed at the hotel pryamida and it only cost 20crowns (90 cents) to get into the centre.

although it was a nice 20 minute walk through prague castle to the centre.

must see if it's still open is the museum of torture instruments i think it's on the west side of the charles bridge.

don't go to rocky o'reillys unless you want to have an authentic irish night out. (crap venue sky high prices).

I would agree with the previous posters, public transport is definitely the way to go. Just because public transport isn't great here it doesn't mean that they haven't got it sorted in Europe. My experience has been that it is usually cheap and quite efficient. One word of advice though, watch out for pickpockets especially during rush hour

I was in Prague last summer, got badly ripped off a few times with taxis but then copped on about the prices. Agree on a price before you get in and dont get in if they try and make it higher...they will eventually agree.

iirc the ABC cabs are decent enough.

Public transport definitely the way to go though - it'll get you anywhere anytime of the day or night for very little money.

    Just back, cool city.
We did'nt use one taxi, as Cremo and gary the great said, top notch transport system. We got an appartment 5 mins from the Charles bridge in Mala Strana so very near everything anyway.
The whole crime thing is a bit o.t.t., I heard a lot of horror stories about the place, but had no hassle at all.

Kicking myself I did'nt get a chance to see the torture museum, but went to the police museum near the uni, beyond doubt the oddest museum I have seen and well worth a trip if you're in town.
We stayed well clear of Irish pubs, pointless imo, could head into town any night for that:)
Also went to Tosca at the national theatre, never thought I'd see the day I would say this about an opera, but it was excellent.

Anyone thinking of going, its well worth a look.

A few pics from the police museum..
