Comments on how to extract more? I rarely know exactly which line to take when I've hit a monster on the flop. This might not be the best example as I did alright, but I had no plan in my head which is the problem :(

Raise him on the flop and hope.

Calling makes it look like you have a King.

Calling the flop is good, you don't want to scare off the third man if he caught a piece of this. I think I would have raised on the turn, enough to make it look like I was trying to buy the pot.

There's an article in the current card player about this exact problem.

    Didn't spot the third man...

    Edit:

Although I'm still thinking you should raise the flop... Article is Limit Cash game - hand in question is NL tournament.

To me flat calling (in tournament in particular) screams "I HAVE A KING". Somebody need to have pocket Jacks now before you get action. (Pocket jacks or not see it the same way I do...)

i have to agree with you. playing quads should be no different to playing trips. Generally players dont bet when they hit trips, if he recognizes this then i could get some action off a pair of jacks.maybe a larger preflop raise was in order, but its easy to say that now.

He has to pay 240 into a pot of 1940, if he has the best hand 1-8 times (ish) its a good call which leads me to believe he dosent have a jack at all but AQ, AX or AXc (or worse).... but NL stt holdem players rarely follow this thought pattern at this level (i imagine) and because of how i played indicates that i hold the king.

In this particular hand raising the flop will either kill my action or get me more. I went down the path of the easy medium.

The question i was getting was how to play the absolute nuts in general but its never that simple i guess. Theres too much variables in poker each hand for there to be an easy answer. Today has been a very insightful day :D

oh and musician i assumed it was you who put the (HH) in the title. its a good idea but its not stated anywhere that it must be put there, not that newbs read the charter before posting anyway

I think the call here on the turn is bad, it lets him know that you have at least one K, and since he definitely doesn't have one, it's hard for you to get more money on the river, unless he hits a flush or has JJ. I think you need to re-raise the turn, by about maybe 320, that way it looks like a slightly weaker hand, and if he has anything he might play back here, you need to give yourself a chance to extract more chips, and this can only really be done here on the turn. Any decent player won't bet anything more here on the river, and so IMHO you were very lucky to get another bet here. Normally you won't get any more money here unless he has JJ, and in which case you'll get the same result by a turn bet.

What level was this at, cos this River bet and fold, looks very fishy.....
