Is there somewhere in the South Tipp region that I could do a part time drama course that covers such things as stage/film, speach and voice training etc.... with out the whole musical thing.

I'm involved in amatuer acting and have performed in both pantomime and drama with local groups. I was considering getting into some sort of course so that I could increase the posability of getting into it at a wage earning level!!!!

It earn a wage in performance arts it is quite vital that you train with a recognised company and recieve the proper tools and discipline to work as a professional. There is no shortcut and it is a difficult road even in the training process. You must be willing to sacrifice in order to develop and learn the craft. The situation in Ireland is tight in terms of theatre and television. One should look to training in the UK and also there is always work for those who act/sing/dance.

    Try these schools in Dublin...

Gaiety School of Drama...Offer part time tuition.workshops and summer courses. Also a fulltime two year programe for those wishing to train as actors. It is expensive and costs up to 4,000 per for course. Is highly recognised and the name is great in the community, this is a big plus. You can find them on the Net also

DIT Speech and Drama, based in Rathmines,Dublin

Trinity College,Dublin.Offer Speech and Drama Studies(more academia than practical) also the BA in Theatre which is a three year course and of great standard. Not easy to get a place though.

    Bull Alley Theatre Training Company,Dublin

These are the premier schools...there is also

Inchicore College..Theatre Studies Course 2-3yr course
Colaiste Dhulaigh...Theatre Studies Course 2-3yr course

    Hi there,
Im from tipp, and honestly I dont think there is something like that around. But, one place that would probably know for sure and be able to sive you some advice is the Tipp excel centre in Tipp town. they have some type of amateur acting group. You could probably talk to any speech and drama teacher (registered with leinster speech and drama) about doing some of the tests and then moving on to the teaching speech and drama course. (im not sure if it works like that) Hope this helps!

Only seeing these replies now. Thanks to ye for the feedback.

Like I say I am looking for something basic, a sort of course that gives you a back ground to acting, and nothing fancy like the Gaiety...which is a bit out of my reach anyway!!

I never thought about The Excel in Tipp, I might check that one out and see what happens.

I'm really only new to amatuer acting, and have performed in Bru Boru with the Cashel drama group, as well as in the Community Hall Cashel with the pantomime group, which I get great enjoyment outta.

What I am looking for is some course that'd help me to throw my voice, and experiment with accents (which I'm not great at). Am not much of a singer so not really interested in that field. A speach and drama class might be fun, does anyone know of a place that does that, which is nearby to me?

ok the excel in tipp will probably help a lot.. if you were int osinging I would have recommnded phoenix productions in thrules.. but seeign as your not... um.. actualyl there are a lot of classes like those around. just training adn experience and the like.. though depending on your age? but the excel wopuld probably be your best bet I think they have soem type of amateur group thign and they probably have information. I muyself go to kyt in kilmallock but.. thats probably a bit young for you.. and far away.. (im only 16..)

I think I asked a similar question about speach and voice training in Cork a few months back. There doesn't seme to be much outside Dublin.
There are some good speech and voice training books on amazon.co.uk but its not exactly the same is it!
