    Tournament Report:
In an event that started with 101 players, 9 players made it to the final table representing 6 different colleges. Des Penny (Maynooth) was the chip leader entering the final table. First to go from the final table was Donal O’Conner (UCD) who pushed his short stack all-in, getting called by Peter Mark’s King Jack. When board gave Peter Mark a full house King’s over Jacks and Donal O’Conner was eliminated.

Peter Mark (UCD) was, himself, next to go when he went all in with a King high board, holding King Queen, only for the chip leader, Des Penny, to turn over King Ace and win the hand with his kicker.

Stephen O’Neill’s (DIT) Ace King failed to hit any cards as David O’Conner, holding 6 7, hit two pair on the flop to eliminate O’Neill in 7th position.

Eoin O’Meara (DBS) had doubled up through the chip leader (Penny) but only a few hands later hit his pair of Kings on the turn and pushed his chips in the middle but David O’Connor (DCU), with his straight, send O’Meara out of the tournament in 6th.

Next to go was Sam Baneham (UCD), who had survived an all in when he pushed David O’Connor off his buried 10’s preflop, went out in 5th position when he became pot committed to a flush draw in a massive pot that was eventually won by Richard Egan who had check raised his two pair against Des Penny’s pair of Aces.

DIT’s last hope for the tournament rested with Jamie Kennedy who must have fancied his Aces but once again it was Des Penny, holding buried Jacks who hit a Jack on the river to send Jamie Kennedy and DIT’s hopes out of the tournament.

In 3rd place Richard Egan (Trinity) raised all in with his buried 10’s after a flop came 9 high, but Des Penny wasted no time calling with his two pair, 7’s and 4’s, leaving David O’Connor as the slight chip leader going into heads up against Des Penny.

The critical hand came very quickly with a raise, then a re-raise, then a re-re-raise and finally and all in re-re-re-raise by Penny, holding buried 10’s. David O’Connor quickly called the all in holding buried Kings. Heartbreak came for O’Connor as the flop carried a 10 to leave Penny a commanding chip lead. O’Connor, left with only 3 big blinds, went all in holding Ace 2 on the very next hand but was gutted to see Penny holding buried Jacks. With a Jack on the flop the game, the tournament and the DIT Poker Marathon 2005 was all but over as Penny went on to fill a full house of Jack’s over 9’s despite O’Connor hitting his Ace.
Photo’s for this event will be available online at www.vegasnights.ie my the middle of next week.

I'm still sick about this hand! Pocket kings cracked on an all in heads up when you're the chip lead, but i suppose that's for the bad beat sticky! Still though, Des played a very solid game all day, and was chip lead for probably the majority of the tournament. He deserved it, fair play to him! A good day was had by all(i think), so cheers again to Nick from Vegas Nights for putting on a very enjoyable tournament.

I think he is annoyed that more people now know how to play poker, without actually knowing how to play poker.

i dealt your table when it was down to the last two and it was very obvious that yourself, des and donal (who went out in 9th) were the real card players at the table. Donal was very low stacked when he got to the final table which didnt help him at all but I was at his table earlier in the tournament and he's a quality player. From what I saw the last three players were very definately there on merit...

Amaru, didnt know you were playin in it.
Yeh i went out Ninth, (on the button with jus over 18k, after payin 2 blinds, three limpers, so i push for 2bb raise, and get 3 callers, (ive A8h but was desperate stages now!) and that was that!)and got a massive 30€ for the 20€ i invested! ahh but in all seriousness it was a very run tournie by vegas nights, and the dit crowd aswell.
walked into the chip leader on second last table wen his A5 out kickered my A4 (aces on the board) to cripple me before final table, but it was very enjoyable, and just shows that doesnt always have to be high buy-in to have enjoyable (and relatively skillful) tournie come the final few tables.
Rishies was very unlucky to go out to a typical BB hand, 74, hittn two pair on the turn against his top pair (afaik) but well played by all, and good tournie, if only the ucd boys followed suit!

the plan is to get the table and put it down stairs in the SU (ya know the room down the corridor from the pool tables?). We're gonna stick it in there and leave the PokerStars.com chip case with cards etc etc in with Anita (the clubs and socs officer in her office) and when you want to borrow the chips you just sign them out and go and play... GAMBLE GAMBLE!!! :)

looks like boards.ie were well represented at the final table!??!

that hand hurt! i remember that, very tough to get away from!

ahh it hurt, but was prob my own fault for playin that hand in the first place!
i was gettin greedy,i tot id play my position against him, and with the steep rise in prize fund i wanted a decent stack for the final table, and with the WIDE range of hands the chip leader was playin, i tot my Ace, although weak, was still good. (although i wsnt convinced, hence no re-raising, thankfully)

Good craic, look forward to next one
