    Hi all,

I'm about to buy a soundcard.. its the first time I've had to do this. I've been gamin and the like for years but have been happy with my sound experiences... but the bro got surround sound for his bedroom, and omg the sound quality is excellent. Films are actually better, more immersive, etc. So I was thinking.. what am I missing out on?? Is half life2 twice as good with better sound?

So here goes... I was looking around and I should be able to get a sound card in the under €70 region that would add to my experience. Something like the Audigy 2 or 4 etc? What are the advantages of the 4 over the 2? is it worth the €30 extra euro? Have been reading up on the XiFi but its seems a bit over kill...

    Thanks for the input all...

IMHO, there wouldnt be much in the difference between the audigy 2 over the audigy 4, they both support 7.1 surround sound, the audigy 4 probably supports more of the newer surround sound standards. I would go for the audigy 2 and use the extra cash to invest in a good set of surround speakers.

I was kind of agreeing until I got to the last sentence. After reading that I was massively agreeing! The speakers are often at least as important as the sound card itself.

I've never used 7.1 before (except in shop demos, etc.)... would people consider it worth buying the extra two speakers if a soundcard can already output 7.1?
