Shop in Aldi ... now they've got some GREAT wines ... at low low prices ... most wines I've bought in Dunnes I've thought are foul ... or maybe I've just bought .. all the wrong ones there :)

Aldi and Lidl for that matter have okay wines at good prices.
Dunnes/Tesco have okay wines, good wines and very good wines but if you get 25% back, it makes it easier buying the expensive ones.

to be honest I find wine ... a personal matter .. what one person thinks is nice another can find it to be complete muck ... I bought a a lot of wine in france fairly cheaply as well and find it hard to compare when I shop locally price wise .. and taste wise ...

check out the http://www.aldi.ie website and look at what they say about their wines .. its mostly true ...

they do a great little mix of grape ... Baron Saint Jean Vin de Pays du Gard at 3.99 a bottle ... now my dad thinks this is an amazing wine and I do as well at the price and at the taste .. its great for cooking and with a meal ... I don't buy wine in there often enough to remember any of the others ... but I'll just say .. give that one a go ..

lidl I never really found that good ... thought they tasted a bit vinegary for my liking

I also find the tesco's australian shiraz to be quite nice around 5.99 a bottle ... my gf who's french doesn't like that one though :) or the Baron Saint jean from aldi ...

Also a great festive treat .. is the Gluehwein premade in a bottle ... about 4.99 a bottle ... bung it in a mug 40 seconds in the microwave and its just like being at a christmas market :)

cheers error9 for that, i think i'll try the Baron Saint Jean Vin de Pays du Gard the next time i'm in aldi. i find some of the wines in mark and spencers excellent and really good value. a bottle of italian pinot grigio @ 7 euro. even the litre bottle of house italian is good. i have yet to visit the wines/beer forum. is it worth rummage through the threads?

I'll second the vote for Baron Saint Jean Vin de Pays du Gard. I always buy a bottle or 2 of it when at Aldi. ;)
