And when I said "Merry" I mean Merry!

She's going to be wrapped up and put under the tree come tomorrow, so I've only a few fleeting hours to wonder at her. I can't open it I'm afraid, as this is my christmas present. And what a present!

Just look how happy I am! :D

No no, she's still sealed. As much as I'd love to take a sip, and swirl it around in my mouth to taste the divine flavour of what is possibly the finest whiskey there is, I'm just not going to spoil christmas for myself.

Well, mine was procured in Galway, so I'm not sure where you'd get a bottle in Dublin, but I'm sure any upstanding off liscence will have a bottle. If not, you can get a bottle online here, although that's a 2005 bottle there, mine is 2004. :p

Celtic Whiskey Shop in Dublin will sort you out. €120 for a Middleton Rare.

Ahem... I think you'll find it's the finest liquid there is.

Be sure to go to the distillery and sign your name in the big ledger the next time you are in Dublin.

They only make a few thousand bottles a year and every owner is invited to put thier name in the big book for that year.

    I didn't know that. Where's the distillery?

Ah remind me of a Black Books style situation where I was told by the girlfriends father to have anything but the Midleton and all I heard was "just the Midleton...."

Turned out to be particularly old bottle of the stuff. He wasn't impressed.

Yeah... there should be a little invite in the box. It's the old Jameson Distillery in Smithfield that does it.

I bought my last bottle of Middleton there so I signed the ledger straight away.

Have you ever tried Green Spot Whiskey? It's not easy to find, but it's very nice and a lot cheaper than Middleton, but made in the same casks.

Hmm... Mine didn't come in a box, for some reason. Not that I'm fussy, it's Midleton ffs!

No, never tried Green Spot, but I'll keep an eye out for it.

    Jesus! How was it?

Magnificent. Had to have a bit of a sit down afterwards.

Got both of us another bottle for x-mas.

We had the coolest sale of a bottle of Midleton the other day in work..

The guy was asking about whiskey and bought smokes or something, said he might be back for some whiskey some time soon...

He was walking out so we started serving the next guy in the queue...

Yer man at the door doubled back and goes "Ah sure givus that bottle of Midleton there"

Actually stopped serving the other customer and basically said "SIR YES SIR!"

    Excellent!

I was in tescos the other week, eyeing up a bottle, and some girl behind me just gasped "€120 for a bottle of Whiskey!!!" Then her father said something about it being the good stuff, and we had a bit of a brief chat about whiskeys.

There's also a place here in town where they have a bottle that's going for nearly €2000!

I think that's one to get when I win the lottery. :v:

Have you ever TRIED a glass of Midleton?

If anyone admitted to drinking it purely to get drunk I would burn them at the stake.

Well with beards comes class. Right? RIGHT? My classiest and most knackery moment was when I took a hip flask of 18 year old Jameson out with me on the piss in Dublin.

I happen to actually have about half a bottle at home... I think I'll go have some when I finish work...

I love how it makes my face feel numb and tingly after just a few sips.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,810 ✭✭✭lodgepole

Eamonn Dorans do Middleton at €20 a go. I've only had the nerve once.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 31,967 ✭✭✭✭Sarky

Blimey! Most pubs in Galway charge nearly half that.

    /me envisions a road trip...

Yeah... the price varies from around €16 up to €24.

But €20 for measure of something that costs €120 a bottle is better value than €4 for a measure of Jameson that costs €25 a bottle.

The maths doesn't seem to quite work out that way when you've drank too much of the stuff though.
