Recommend someone to fit windscreen

    Hi folks

I need the seal replaced on my Stag's windscreen - I already have the replacement seal. Can I get a normal autoglass place to do it or is that too optimistic ? The rubber seal also have a chrome strip that needs moved from the old seal to the new before fitting.

Recommend anyone near Sandyford or Clonsilla in Dublin ? Last thing I want is to be turned away, or to have them see a classic car and see $$ signs in their eyes.

Would you not do it yourself ?

All you need is a length of wire and some swarfega !!

I assum it has leaked or been leaking in which case you may need to effect repairs before putting the new one in !

If not call the fast fit places and tell them its not a bonded screen, just a simple rubber screen seal and see what they say !

If the chrome strip is anything like the one on a Triumph 2000, you are going to have a nightmare of a time fitting it, there is a special tool for refitting it and without it its slow work.

Yeah, it's the same as the Triumph 2000 screen :-/

I've read the DIY instructions here but it sounds a bit big for a first-timer

It is not too bad to do, just make sure you have some decent cord as towards the end there is a fair bit of strain on it and to start again so close to the end is soul destroying.

Fitting the screen is no problem, its the trim thats fiddly, ended up driving my 2000 for months with no chrome on it until I couldn't stand looking at it no longer. took 2 of us a couple of hours to refit it.

When the rubber is clean and dry, use masking tape to secure the trim, then jam in the wire and then apply the swarfega.

    What wire, dude ?

    From what I have gathered:

    - lube everything up with soap (or swarfega ?)
    - install the chrome strips into the rubber
    - install rubber onto glass
    - install a cord (or electrical wire ?) all around the other side of rubber
    - lift the glass and rubber (beginning to sound like you need 6 hands) and fit to car
    - draw the inner part of the rubber into the inside of the car using the cord/wire
    - inject everything with silicon sealant

    is that it ?
