I guess this would be the right board to ask about this camera.

Its on sale in Aldi this Thurs: http://www.aldi.ie/special_buys/product_491.html

It would be used for general family photos and the like.

Any comments suggestions welcome. I had a quick google myself but no luck finding anything. Maginon 8300 appears to be the same one.

    All I've found so far...

The camera is essentially a re-badged Acer and there are many reviews of this. Those I have read suggest the camera is generally alright but rather slow through a sluggish processor. Some reviewers suggest that it offers very reasonable performance for the price - but it appears unfortunately not to be an outstanding performer with a slightly softish lens. The same camera is also sold under the Vivitar name in Argos and other stores. Although other vendors charge similar prices, Aldi's 3-year warranty and extras make the Traveller better value than its other incarnations. But do remember, megapixels per pound may not be the best way to chose a camera!

Its apparently the same as one sold in Argos as, Vivitar v8300. Seems alright for the price and the little extras.

    Edit #10000000000 :)

So it's slow, has a soft lens and in my opinion isnt great for the money. Given that having the most megapixels possible isnt an issue, I got a 5mp Casio Exilim recently for less money and by all accounts, the casio is an outstanding camera. I'd avoid it; if only for the reason that it apparently has a soft lens.

Have to agree with Rymus - go with a Casio Exilim or Canon IXUS. Get an previous version on sale instead of a new Aldi-cam.
